More Problems

Okay so I found out that I must have a problem with my 400. I got it to start today and yes it was really chilly out. She ran on half choke all day and popped if you gave it to many RPMs.

I'd switch it off choke completely and it would just die right away. Recently I oiled the filter up because I had cleaned it. Maybe I put too much oil on the filter and its not getting enough air...

So tonight I took the filter off and tried to start it without the filter on and the black deal that connects your filter to the carb came off the carb.

What's up with my quad?!

Thats the air boot, it needs to be on the carb. If it was loose all day then you were sucking in WAY to much air and that would induce the popping and running rough.

Put it back together and it should run fine.

it was gas deprived if you had to run with the choke on all day for future reference. the choke richens it up and is probably what saved you. get that baby put back together tight and you shouldnt have any issue. steve

I got it back on and cleaned off the oil from the filter and she still running rough..

Somehow I think I'm doing something right because before I couldn't get it on no choke at all.

So I got the filter off AGAIN trying to get that oil off.

you arent supposed to soak it in oil just put enough on it to lightly cover it. lol just zig zag it around the filter and squeeze it in. steve

LOL I know I'm an idiot newb. You can't squeeze it though...its not like those kinds of filters. Hopefully none of that crap got in my carb!!

you should be able to squeeze it, take it off of the screen if possible. what kind of filter is it. a uni? steve

it probably wouldnt hurt to clean the intake tube and your carb too. disassemble it and clean it well. you could have something stuck in your jets or something also adding to the issue. steve

Yeah I use the K&N cleaner and the K&N oil. I put way to much on though! I checked the intake tube and its pretty good and the carb looks to be alright..

I guess if this doesn't work, I will have to remove all that stuff.

i would def clean it all out. just turn it red with the oil. it doesnt need to run off of it or anything. lol

LOL thats what it was doing! I agree, I'm an idiot.

Each clean, the 400 runs better so hopefully, just hopefully I can get it back to normal.

I just couldn't wait to get back on and ride lol since we got a lot of snow the past few days.

Hopefully I get it cleaned out and nothing else is wrong!!! =)
