Hey guys I just picked up an 08 Outlaw 525 IRS bran new in crate.

I'm guessing this has been asked 900000 times but i'll ask again.

What is the best break in for this ktm engine?

I've broke in 2 predators and more CR250 moto bikes that I can count.

However the paper work that came with the Outlaw 525 had a warning from Polaris saying to be sure to follow the break in process in the book for this KTM race engine.

The Predator never had a warning paper in it's package so i'm wondering if I should just break it in how I've done the preds or if there is a process to making sure these motors have max life span.

The predator what I did was warn it up with easy riding not letting it sit and idle once warn I would run it through all the gears using the first 1/2 of the throttle for the first hour. Let it cool. Than on the 2nd hour same thing but using the top 3/4. not punching it and loading up the engine but smoothly rolling through the revs. That predator ran perfect and never once needed anything other than oil changes. I would like the KTM motor to treat me as well. I understand this motor does take more maintenance.

Thanks for the help guys.

I also attached a picture with the Outlaw and the Sportsman 850XP

Is that the 08? its an older body style, must of been sitting for quite some time. I was honestly only very gentle on my quad for the first few hours and then i did my break in oil change after my 2nd ride and have not had any problems since.

i however have a 450 mxr and its a 2010

What did you give for your outlaw?

Yup it had been sitting on the show room since 09. haha
I paid 4000 otd. which for a brand new carry over i thought was fare.

I was planning on changing oil after full tank of gas. So a easy break in.

That i can do. I want many trouble feel miles out of it.

Warm it up shift threw the gears and hammer down. If you baby it you have more chance of the rings not seating correctly and getting blow by. Just my 2 cents.

Something else I thought was interesting/odd.
The front shocks are Fox the rear are Ryde FX pro series. Why did polaris use two different brand shocks on the machine?

Be careful on first oil change front drain is in very tight and very easy to strip out

Here is another closer up picture of it.
Anyone knows anything about why Polaris used two different brand shocks i'm all ears.

They both should be fox I believe the rear is a fox podium. The 450 MXR has fox podiums on boith ends.

Edit
Sorry I didn't see you had an IRS not sure why the had those ryde fx.

I would assume because they are cheaper?

That sucks.
I'm sure they are still good shocks but I hate ryde FX i had them on my Shift IQ sled and they where terrible. granted these are pro series the others where not.

The Pro series Ryde FX are rebuildable right?

I wonder if the 09 newer body style has fox all the way around. Kind of a let down but i still love the machine.
