Hey guys yesterday night I did an oil change and spark plug check on my uncle's bikes which we usually take out when I take my 400 out.

Well anyways his honda 300 was perfect considering he hasn't changed the oil in like 2 years. The plug looked good but we replaced it anyways and with the new oil it started ont he first puch of the button.. Great machine

on to his second bike which is a kawi Dakota Sport (The tank #1). The oil was bad like the 300 since it hadn't been changed for so long, the plug was a lil dark but nothing major and after the new plug and oil were in it also started up on the first push of the button.

OK now the problems start when we got to his other Kawi Dakota Sport (The Tank #2) . ABout 2 months ago the pipe fell off at Glamis and the bike was ridden by a friend (Dunb *****) for awhile without it before he let us know about it. Anyways the bike never ran the same even after the pipe was re installed but we figured maybe the pipe was gone on it. OK well I first drain the oil which also looks like cramp than move to the filter. OK the filter had tons of crap on it which I figure is very bad and I have never seen before. It looked to me like gasket pieces on the entire outside of it. Also you can see the metal flakes sparkling in the filter. I figure this is bad... Well we replaced the filter put a new plug in since the plug it had was really black. Started up the bike with no problem even thou it sounds like a harley now... lol

Well my question is what do you think is wrong in the engine. I figure there is a major problem since there were metal flakes in the filter as well as what looked like to be pieces of gasket.

Let me know...

Thanks for the fast replys guys.. lol

Actually I found out my uncle had never changed the oil on that one quad so I think the things we found inside was from the original assebly. I know sometimes you get pieces of rubber or gasket or metal from the original assmbly...

So we'll have to see when we change it next time how it is doing. If I find more stuff than I know there is a big problem...

Just curious, when the pipe fell off, did it burn up the valves? I'd check 'um.

When the silencer came off, assuming it was probably the stock silencer, the motor probably started running very lean - as in way more air than feul. This condition would cause lots of heat and possibly top end damage such as burnt valves as mentioned.

It might be a good idea to do a compression check at this point and compare the results to the specs in a shop manual for this machine.

Good luck, and hopefully you aren't in need of a top end rebuild. Just some info for you. :)
