A popular inexpensive mod that is just catching on with us 400EX guys is to swap the stock single piston front calipers with twin piston units from a YFZ 450. Any year should work as far as I know.

I've now learned that they will bolt right up to the LTZ400 as well! Add some SS brake lines and you have a nice increase in stopping power over stock.

Just thought i'd let you guys know :D

Thats a great Idea ! definitly an upgrade for both quads . how long have you been running the yfz brake calipers? and hows the difference? do you use the same brake line ?does Z /ex brake lines screw into YFZ brake caliper? Show some pics !

I just got mine in the mail from Ebay yesterday so I haven't tried them yet. But I did bolt them up and they fit perfect. I got brand new take offs from a 2010 YFZ so any year 2004-2010 should work. The guys that have used them on the 400EX say that you can use the stock brake lines/bolts and master cylinder. Also said there's a noticeable difference in stopping power/sensitivity over the stock single piston calipers.

I was over on another ATV forum and a guy mentioned that he tried them on his Z400 and they work perfect. It looks like the Z400 and 400EX use the same front calipers anyway, so this should naturally be the case.

Here's one thread if you want to see some pics: http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=442947

A Yfz slave cylinder will work on the rear brake as well!! Mine seized up and it fit pretty good.

Dont forget, you need to cut the dust shield on the top at least 2 inches or the calipers wont go on.

Did that about 3 or 4 yrs ago as well as using the 450r front master cylinder and lever because the piston is bigger and pushes more fluid and the lever is adjustable. They work very well. You can also use a gsxr600 front for a dual piston rear with a few mod to the mount plate.

A gsxr front dual piston used to replace a rear caliper on a z400, wow! what model year of gsxr 600? I am glad you posted that info because my friends and I were wondering what can be used to replace the rear caliper. thanks for info jonboy.
