hey i just got 700 bux worth of work done to my quad just to get it running again . The mechanic told me that the old starter blew a hole through the side cover and disintegrated some how. he said it has way more compression now than it did when i brought it in all beat up so he said i prolly need a heavy duty starter any idea where to find one and if they actually exist or would a regular starter work just fine its a 440 big bore new piston rings valves carb all of the above new

You will need a busa battery. They don't make a heavy duty batter to my knowledge?

i havent seen one. the busa battery will help it out though.

if it disintegrated it will have a new one on it anyway so between the 2 you should be alright.

haha now that i have been looking at starter parts recently, i want to see if he can just replace the broken part instead of buying a new starter.

Never did an atv starter, but ive rebuilt plenty of toyota 22re 4cyl starters.

I think someone did a write up on how to do points on an EX starter. PA Redneck maybe??

i thought you could just do the guts of them, like the wires and gears? mine will have to get done one day or replaced. Im hoping it will turn over the 440 lol. steve

Just like any starter you can open them up and replace the parts.

New starter from service honda is 223 (just checked), every single part in it costs less than 75 bucks :)

Probably replacing the brushes will fix a worn starter

gonna take some time, fell on the ice during the last storm and my back made all kinds of fun popping noises.

its fun I just get to do the simple tasks and make them work tho. Probably woulda been done had we proper tools (air ratchets are nice) and a heated shop.
