Got a 2000 400ex, and looking at doing another 440 kit but I can't remember what compression piston on ran. I am looking at a 12.5 to 1, so my question is that just to much? Think of throwing a the plus 4mm crank at it to if that makes a diff, still just a idea tho.

it really depends on the rest of your setup. that will require 110 octane.

hd head studs will be a requirement also with that high of compression.

The hd studs where on my list of things, don't want the studs pulling out of the jug. Plan on running a stage two cam, and sparks exhaust.

you are going to have one very fast quad

Where do you even get 110 octane fuel at?

I have a gas station in my town that sells it. We have a race track in town and I am pretty sure that's the only reason why they sell it.
I hope its going to be fast, has to beat my yfz. LOL

a well tuned 416 would beat a stock yfz or at least give it some major fits. this setup should have no problem outrunning any 450 imo. steve

Well that's what I am shooting for, not just in the straights but in the woods also.(know it will walk my yfz in the woods cause it's set up for Mx) Might have to do a build thread. Thanks for the info Steve.

If you are going to put a stroker crank in it, dont waste your money on a stage 2 cam, get the stage 3.

Stage three you have to change out springs and I know how to do it but do I want to to waste the time? I mean is it really wroth it the extra money?

not sure if it is worth it but you shouldnt have to change springs from what i have ever heard with it. unless they are wore out of course. lol

I would say if you run a full stroker it would be nice to have the stage 3 to get some more top end and mid but the 2 will be lower end and mid mainly. im interested to find out some more on it.

it would definitely be wise to at least replace the springs on a higher lift cam such as the stage 3. if you run that setup with a stage 2, it will fall flat on its face when there is much more power to be had.

Yes it will deff fall on its face with a stage 2. I know this from experience. You dont have to replace the springs with a stage 3 unless they are worn out. If they are to that point you should probably replace them anyways even for a stage 2.

yep, thats what i was trying to say. i bought your stage 2 from you and i ran it for a little while on the springs that were in there, but when i rebuilt i replaced them just for cheap insurance. they were still in the service limits, but i feel a heck of a lot better.

Guys I am saying your wrong, and I havent posted in awhile, but I was pretty sure I read somewhere that a stage three requires springs. I went on hot cams site and I can't seem to find the info I had before. With the last build I did that is why I stayed away from the three, just cause of the springs and the cost. If something has changed let me know and I throw down for the three!!! Would love to really open her up. Or all in all I just read something wrong.....

well I have the stage 3 and when i bought it the description said I could use stock springs so I did. Its been roughly 3 years or so and still no problems.

Well that's what I will do then.

I would still measure the springs though. If they are in the lower range of the tolerances I would go ahead and replace them no matter what cam you go with.
