I can get a 91 buick century for 400 bucks. The only problem with it is the water pump bearing. Its lookin like i can get the whole waterpump and the gasket for 20 somethin bucks. The car only has 83k original miles on it. Anyone think it would be worth it?

id buy it fix it put it up for sale for like 1000 and take any good offer. with only putting 420 into it you can price it cheap to sell fast...

That kinda thing only works on cars worth something. A buick century at best is worth maybe a grand.

Your gonna sell it for maybe 600 bucks, so a profit is still a profit.

It seems like similar centurys in my area sell for 1500 to 1800. Im thinking since the paint isnt in the best shape ill throw a tag of 1000 like you said and get what i can take. I mean it gets 20 mpg or so and only has 83000 miles... gotta be worth a little bit haha. Then again they call you flipper, so you might know what your talking about :chinese:

Im a mechanic, those cars aint worth jack. Now if it was a honda or toyota your talking 1500-2500 with ease. http://www.edmunds.com/buick/century/1991/?sub=sedan believe it or not its actually a pretty reliable car, my dad had a 92 century he drove for 300k.

My brother had a 96 regal and even if it was in pristine shape at best it was worth a grand, maybe 1500 bucks.

Ive sold a few, i'd buy it possibly, hard to tell without seeing. But if your sure thats what it is, and make sure you can change it yourself, then get it. I would put it for 1300. and put you really need to sell it, someone will come, take 1000 if necessary. they will think they "bargained" you and got a good car for cheap, and both will be happy. Just make sure car doesnt run hot before you sell it. I would rather eat the cost of what I paid then sell something that i know is a bomb

I do stuff like that all the time. I usually find them a little cheaper, though.

A car with a waterpump problem is basically a car that doesn't run. And any car that is worth $1000 RUNNING, ain't worth $400 in non-running condition.

I pretty much buy/sell/trade cars and anything else with a motor on a full time basis. From my experience your better off getting into a smaller market. Im partial to 78' to 94' toyota trucks, very few cars hold their value like a yota truck, around here atleast...

I typically try to stay away from buying and selling daily drivers, or "average daily cars". Nobody ever seems willing to pay good money for a daily driver, afterall if your asking too much they'll just buy the next one for less.

Good point, thanks for the advice. Ive actually been looking around for an older truck but havent had much luck yet. Turns out that the guy THINKS its the water pump bearing. The car makes a loud noise when its running so that might be it. Hes been driving it for 2 months with the noise. My brother in law is a diesel caterpillar mechanic im going to get him to check it out and see what he thinks the problem is.

If its not a big issue and can be fixed cheaply, buy it then sell it for 250 more than you bought it! EASY money

Bought a car for $850, registered it and drove it around for a bit, vaccumed and shampooed the carpet, degreased the engine, creaned the windows and waxed the car, repraced the stock speakers with good stock speakers and put an extra aftermarket headunit I had raying around... sord it for $2500. Totar profit $1600.

The one thing I have to question is. A title change is like $150. If you put it in your name there is 150 gone already so that brings you at almost 600. Am I missing something or just thinking too deep into it?

Unless you just literally flip it, you will need to register it and get insurance on it. They frown on doing that around here though, and it has to be registered in someone's name in something like 30 days or the next owner will have to pay back taxes. But If you can buy it, leave the title blank, and flip it pretty quick, you can skip all that.

NOPE, but actually it is $300 for a complete car, bottom line.

ALSO PEOPLE, you will have to pay a sales tax which, around here anyway, is a minumum on 800. Costs about $100 to change a title over for everything minimum (HERE IN MD) But, we dont have any weird rules about time limits

That sure sucks in MD, here they pay weight. We used to soak the vehicles with water to get more weight :)

Why would you go and register it? unless your house is on the road and your state has laws like connecticut so you cant have unreg'd vehicles within view of the road, then just sell it with a bill of sale from you but dont sign the title. I've done this probably 20 times and never had a problem. fortunatly my house is way off the road so i've had up to 8 unreg'd cars waiting to be sold.

For this exact reason I picked up the yota truck in my sig in NY 4 months or so ago, registered it because i couldnt keep myself from driving it and now i've waited 4 months for my CT title and I cant sell the fuggin thing without it...
