Wont start with starter or pull start. Has compression but cant tell how much. getting fuel. What should i check first? Was making a ticking sound before (sounded like rocker maybe slack in chain)and I let it idle walked away for a minute then died and hasnt started back since. Should i pull the head and see or what? Thanks for any help

it sounds like u have a bad timeing chain and the tensioner went on it. its has happened to me 2 times when rideing the idle picks up a little and it ticks loud and soon it stops and will not start back up.

but before u take anything off it would be good if u get a compression reading on it. it should be around 100-130 psi.

also check for spark on the plug. the coil or cdi box might have went bad.

to check the tensioner it is mounted on the backside of the cylinder on the right side of the quad u need to remove the 2 8 mm bolts and to remove it and take the big cap in the middle off. then u need a really small flat head srew drive to turn the plunger. and crank it all the way in and pull the screw driver out and if it doesn't spring back out on its own power then it is bad.

you can check compression by taking spark plug off use a compression tester or get some one to pull start it with your finger over the hole and see if you can hold your finger there... can be alot of things, compression, spark, carb... and what kind of atv is it?

Yes i meant pulling it with another quad not a hand pull start
