Before the ride yesterday I opened the air box and found that my air filter is pretty gunked up.

I have a K&N air filter and K&N spray but the bottle is pretty old and the directions have been rubbed off.

How do you guys clean your air filters?

Thanks

I have been using gas to clean my filters for years. Some people say not to because the filter will break down, that never once happened to me. Spray some filter oil on after its clean and run it all the way through the filter. Then ring out the excess when your done.

It is the K&N Highflow air filter though so I don't believe you can ring it out like a stock filter.

I could be mistaken though.

my apologizes, missed that. yes use the correct k&n stuff on it to clean it and then use their oil also. it is very easy to do. just spray it on, let it sit for 6 minutes or so, rinse off with water. shake it out a couple of times while drying to speed up the process. let it dry, then spray the oil on when dry.

Okay theres what I was missing. I bought my quad from another guy and he gave me the cleaning spray.

But not the oil.

So I can clean it, but can't put any oil back on...

lol that sucks! the kit isnt much and will last quite a while so at least it is a decent investment. you can also get the oil seperate if you have quite a bit of cleaner left.

I always have left over cleaner too it seems when i do all of mine. I have 4 different k&ns to do a few times a year and i only buy a kit every couple of years it seems. we have them in 3 cars along with my wheeler.

just about any auto parts place should have it so you shouldnt have to order it.

Was wondering if you have to use that K&N oil stuff or can you use any oil?

I know stupid question but I can't get my hands on some K&N oil till next week..

KN filter oil should only be used on KN type filters and nothing else.

If its a foam filter you want to use foam filter oil like maxima or belray or similar. Dont use KN oil on a foam filter

You can get the KN oil and cleaner kit at almost any pepboys or similar-least thats where I got mine when I needed the stuff for a filter on my truck.

Yeah its not the foam filter so I can't use the Belray.
