Not sure about where the gains come in on the stage 1 cam, but i am pretty sure it is a low to mid cam. The stage two cam really isn't useful if you have a stock engine. It really needs a P&P and a larger bore than stock to see some real HP gains from a stage 2.

Stage 1 i think will help you out. If you plan on going to a full built in the near future, just hold off on the cam.

I recently bought a Curtis Sparks x1 cam & was told that it was like a stage 1.5 lol. I thought that sounded pretty good for the riding I do. So that might be another option for you. I'll let everyone know how it is once I put it in.

Yeah the stage 1 is good for low end power, but it will lose some on the top. I definitely noticed after I rode mine with a stage 1, but its not THAT drastic of a change.

Total cost to get all the parts and machine work done wasnt to bad. I didnt skimp on parts and work and I think everything was about 400-500 bucks.

Thats piston, gaskets, bore job, HD head studs, CRF cam chain, hot cam, etc. I also saved myself all the labor of assembly since I did it myself tho.

i put a stage 2 in my 400ex after i did a 416 bore on it, fun little bike and the power hit at the right times. Strongly considering doing a 440 build or another 250r build, cant decide what i want

I ran a stage 1 cam in two different motors.

I'm not sure why people say youll "lose" top-end this just isnt true.

Though most of the increase is in the middle there is definitely a slight increase up top as well.

I also ran a stage 2 in both of these motors and personally didn't like it and. All I ride is dunes

Neither motor was ported, one was an 12:1 440, the other an 11:1 416

since you guys are talking about this, what would be you suggestions if you had a 10-1 .40 (406) stg. 1 or 2 for traails

What kind of suspension do you have? Put your money there first then do the motor. If you’re going into the motor anyway why not do a 416 with a mild p&p? Not much in cost deference and much better performance as a whole. If assembled properly it is completely reliable.

Absolutely stage 1. Im running HC stage 1, 11:1 weisco 406 1 mil overbore, K&N air filter with an outerwears, and a CT racing slip on. All I ride are trails and that thing rips! I just lined up with a 05 trx450, 08 yfz450, and an 08 outlaw 525. The yfz got me by one bike length, the outlaw by 2, and i had a half a bike length on the trx. Gobs of mid range, got some on top end and bottom end is tight.
