my 416 smokes like this when i start it up and it's cold. my smoke is darker though.

Once the quad is warm though it doesn't smoke a all. I was told i just need a valve adjustment can anybody verify that? i got the feeler so i'm going to do this sometime i the next couple days.

when it smokes all the time that means your rings are prolly bad right?

If your bike smokes on start up then gradually goes away it means your valve seals are bad. Cheap and easy fix but you have to pull the head. It will be fine to ride it like that for a while but it will eventually cause excess carbon buildup on the valves and piston.

is it the seals for sure or could they just be out of spec? i have to pull the head anyway to replace the base and head gasket, they're both leaking.

Out of spec or not will not make it smoke. Most likely the valve seals like rubbersdown said. Cheap to replace.

ok, i also have valve noise. would that be caused from the seals as well or no? i guess i'll put my valves to the proper spec and then i'll replace my valve seals.

do the valve seals come with the top end kits or do i just need to buy them seperate from the dealer>?

Its the valve seals, as nacs said, being out of adjustment wont make it smoke. Valve seals will usually come with a top end gasket kit anyway so just do em when you do the base and head gaskets.
