Correct: the only place to put oil is the tank. If it’s a dry motor I would let it sit for a little while and let some oil migrate to the motor first before you start it. If you pre lubed the parts when you put it together then you should be good to go. After it sits for 5 minuets with the new oil in it then start it and let it idle for about 1 minuet. Then shut it off and let it sit another 5 and check the oil level again.

Yes 2 quart total with filter change. 1.8 without a filter change.
That is if it has a stock oil tank.

but after a rebuild u often times need about a 1/4 of a quart more to top it off because u let oil out that normally would never make it out on a regulare oil change

Good point, that’s why I suggested that he re check after he put it in.

i never check mine anymore unless it's a random check after not riding for awhile.

i just put 2 quarts in and i know it's full, i used to try to let it idle and check the oil level but it's 2 quarts i mean it can have a little extra or a little less. as long as i know i put 2 quarts in i feel good about it.

well on a regulare oil change yea i do the same thing most of the time. but on rebuilds i know they often need more oil to fill it up. but i never really check my oil bettween b/c u can tell if ur leaking or burning oil and as long as thats not happening i know i am good.

I always check it, every ride. You just never ever know.

You can pour it in several different places but putting it in the resivoir is the correct way because the resivoir is before the filter
