is there an obvious reason perhaps i'm missing why one does not exist?

They make one for the mini quads but its not very good. Friend of mine ran one on his sons and blew it out 2 times.

Where the shock is so close to the exhaust it heats the air up and messes the pressures about. I believe custom axis are close to releasing one out though.

they couldnt get sufficient airflow to the rear to keep the shock cool enough

Rear shock does not get enough air flow for it to work right. its in too compact of an area. and all the heat from the motor and everything else messes with the pressure.

If Adam McGill and Taylor Kiser were blowing TTX rear shocks because of heat, think about how hot an air shock would get.

Heat is one thing, but the pressure that the seals would have to hold is another. Think about how much heavier the rear springs are than the front.
