2 quarts if doing the filter too.

you have to do the tank drain, the oil filter, and a plug underneath the shifter.

^^^^there are some other good 400ex articles also including valve adjustments.

^^^ manual download which is a good thing to have around also. it shows anything that needs to be done to a 400.

enjoy! steve

yup, just put 1 qt in and start it up for about 20 seconds or so. then add the other qt to it. the res tank wont take all 2 qts at the same time without getting some pumped back into the engine. steve

I put in about 1.5 qts, then I like to hit the kill switch and crank it over a few times so it pumps the oil into the engine before starting it.

Then let run a min, and add the last 1/2 qt.

Be careful not to over-tighten the plug on the botton of the oil tank, sucker breaks easy.

or the ones on the case where the filter is.

Use a 1/4 drive ratchet and grip the head in your palm. 8 ft-lbs iirc.

haha oh damm. you don't have to get these things so tight. just lightly hand tight with a small ratchet like mentioned.

make sure you use the washers.
