So I picked this bike up a last week and been breaking knuckles getting it running and stuff after sitting for a few years....parking mine next to a stock 250r I notice alot of changes but not sure really what everything this bike has... Like my front shocks any clue what they are how much nitrogen they hold?? I put 200psi but they just seam real soft still..:( I was told it has the bigbore 310 kit which I think it does because the cylinder on this bike is alot bigger than the stock one I was looking at.. I got thing running decent but the top end of the power band bogs out so I'm not sure if a reed valve is gummed up or maybe it's trying to foul the plug etc. Not really sure... Supposedly it's a Jerry hall 310 what ever that means lol... I see a few more upgrades like the rear caliper is way bigger than stock the a-arms are super long in the front hub to hub is 48" and the rear swinger is lengthened pretty well also... Hmmm anywho here is a few pics any input is appreciated Tia.
Ps. I need a gas cap and a couple other little misc. Parts if anyone has one lmk. Thanks..

Thats an interesting rear end set up you got there! no link on a stock frame. I like the swingarm! I believe you have works front shocks by the way, and 200 pounds of nitrogen should be fine for them. They may need rebuilt if they are still soft.

Your cylinder is a stock cylinder. It could have a big bore sleeve pressed into it, but you would have to take it apart to tell.

Thanks for your reply... A couple of my buddies looked at that swinger and was like wow that's pretty sick but no one knows what it is lol... It might be custom made a 1 off I think the front a-arms are also I'll have to measure them and see if you guys could tell or not... I always wanted a 250r Now I got one and don't know half the stuff on it lol... It also has a very bad slip on the kick starter which I hear is a common problem but never really found anything that stated a fix??? Any suggestions??? Tia again...

if the kicker is slipping, the gear is most likely worn.you have to take the side cover off.the two gears mesh together when engaged take a look there.nice quad, that does have some interesting parts.

I'll pull it off and take a look and see if anything looks bad... From what I read the gears always looked rounded off so people buy new ones only to have the same problem...:( I am half tempted to buy my brothers other one.. "just for parts lol.."
It's bone stock but all there and very clean!! He wants 1500$ for this but told me a grand since I bought the one above..

It's a shame to see a nice bike treated like that. It's cool that you got one with good parts on it that you can clean, shine, and nurse back to health and personalize. You'd better take a good look at that chain, or huck it, before you make some real work for yourself.imo

It appears to me that your front arms may be made by a company called atv racing. I see them alot around here (north phoenix) I don't know if they make them anymore but alot of older local bikes have them. Jerry Hall... same thing arizona based guy who has been building motors for years. I would assume he did the port work. He is a good builder actually an engineer, knows his stuff. Swingarm I'm not sure?? could be the same atvracing. I know the no link was a hot setup for desert with all the whoops. They have come along way since then. (they sit lower) But that should help you out. Good luck and have fun.

Just looking at it, my guess would be this was set up for desert racing, so the front shocks are going to be sprung soft (any desert riders back me up on that?)

Looks like a Custom Axis rear shock and a home-made airbox.

Maybe an '87 frame, missing the VIN plate?

Nice... Thanks for the heads up.. We picked this bike up in phoenix like 5 yes ago and brought it to Vegas so most likely all your assumptions are correct..;)

Already done lol... I put a brand new renthal o-ring chain on it.. Ordered the quad tech carbon fiber hood and new gears for the kick starter and few billet goodies... I plan on taking the bike down to the frame and rebuilding it but right now is our opening of riding season and we park for the summer so I want to get a few rides in before I turn it into a money pit!!!!!

Ya it's a 87 I have the vin plate and title that came with it when we picked it up in Arizona but since then the bike had been stripped and powder coated when my brother bought it so the plates have been removed... I still have them but there not on the bike...

from the pics it looks like your intake is cracked that would cause your top end problems, also you have a pwk possibly 38mm carb, NOT an airstriker tho

lp designz
12-27-2010, 03:47 PM
No cracks looking right now..."scared me lol" the carb is a keihin pwk... Then it is engraved with 71ra4 ods what ever that means... What size carb is it??? You think I should change it??? I'm wrenching on it right now getting the front end aligned... I put a lonestar steering stem on it and everything is out of whack now lol...

DnB_racing

71r is a 38mm that's a good carb for a ported motor and anything under 310 its not the best for slow woods riding, your saying the rubber intake boot isn't cracked???? it sure looks like it in the pic

lp designz
12-27-2010, 04:09 PM
nope no cracks... just checked again.. it has dirt gummed up all along the lines in it but it's not cracked.... i just chopped the fenders and did a little more cleaning... and ordered more unnecessary goods lol... quad tech seat, carbon fiber tank cover, carbon fiber hood, and some billet parts.... any idea where to get the fancy billet levers with billet resivors etc???? i got a brand new lonestar stem and new bars grips etc but the levers look crappy...:(
here is a few pics with the fenders cut etc.. oh and the new chain lol...

How about that BZ airbox? was that the way you got it from arizona? I know a guy they call BZ if thats the way you got it I'd be willing to bet it was his bike hes been riding R's since the hay day. I could surely get you all the details then. Those arms are certainly "atvracing" arms after seeing the pics. The swingarm probably is too although I've never seen any of their swingarms.

I'm off warmsprings and 215 green valley area... Not many places to go besides apex or dry lake beds.... Last time I went to the dry lake beds a ranger pulled up starting writing tickets for no spark arrestors before we got out of the truck lol... Mine were covered since I just had a couple little 80s for the kids.... I haven't took this one out yet..;)
But my neighbors got hit...:(

Btw I grew up on the east side... That big power plant off russel was in my backyard lol... I used to shoot out my back gate and take the wash to the Mesa "vo tech" or head east to pabco and ride to lake mead lol....

Just need to go out away from the lake beds. There are some awesome trails out in the Jean/Primm area. Nelson Hills and Logandale trails are a couple of others.

I am guessing you were out at the Jean dry lake bed when the rangers were writing tickets, they love to be out there with there ticket books. Funny part is, they should start going out to Apex. Between no spark arrestors, no helmets, riding double, riding on the paved roads, they could have a hay day. In the ten years I have been riding out there, I have never seen one ranger, not sure why they avoid the place.

I really like the chain tensioner. I googled the company doesnt seem to exist anymore. if you ever sell that one let me know.
does anyone know if a chain tensioner is available for the 250r?

We were out by jean lol.... The dry lake beds are the place to go for me because all 3 of my kids ride..."4,6and 8 yr olds" :) I'm sure alot of parts you see on this bike are obsolete lol... My brother bought it off eBay like 6 yrs ago and at that time is was supposedly top of the line "5,500.00$ worth" he rode it like 2 times and it has sat since then..dunno lol... I wanna restore it hella bad but I want to ride also it's been along time since I rode and this is my first quad...;)

crazy stuff..... i got the bike all redone nice and clean, new motor shocks rebuilt etc... so be it i lose my job... so the quads gotta go :( anyways i knew it belonged to some big time racer in phoenix yada yada yada.... i get the title out of the filing cabinet and low and behold this bike belonged to the great pro quad legend jeffery spooner!!!! sucks he passed away in a car crash last year but i knew this bike was something special it has parts no one has seen or knows where to get... anyways just thought that was pretty cool and wanted to share.... been trying to sell it locally for 3 months now and can't get crap for it... i won't give it away lol... thinking about parting it out but would rather just sell it as a whole bike is to nice and clean to take apart...
