This is a pretty stupid question but I got a Uni Ait filter for Christmas and I didn't think about getting the fancy oil and cleaner and I know I can't get it before Christmas.. So would it be okay to oil it with regular motor oil like 5-20 oil just one time?

just run it without oil or u can use motor oil too. long as the airbox lid is on you will be just fine. When you get the foam air filter oil you might want to clean the filter out before you put that stuff on.

Doesn't motor oil collect some of the dirt? Because I have to run the airbox lid off..

I would wait until you can get the real stuff. Foam filter oil is completely different than motor oil. Filter oil becomes very sticky and tacky once it dries.

foam filter oil is sticky and tack all the time, it doesn't ever really dry it stays oily and sticky.

with the lid off i wouldn't mess without oil that's asking to get dirt and crap in your motor. motor oil will help trap the dirt and dust so it will work temporarily the problem is, it won't stick to the filter like it should it will most likely drip around and make a huge mess for ya.

Yeah I know I just only need it for like one ride

i'd run it without oil before i put motor oil on it..especially if where your gonna be riding isnt very dusty youll be fine.

It won't be dirty but it will probably be a little snowy and muddy

i would never even concider riding without oiling the filter .anybody that does this should try running there finger on the inside of the airboot after a dusty ride .there will be a film of dirt on your finger for sure.oiling with regular motor oil will make a mess, but i would still oil it even for one ride. sorry j.m.o. but i have seen dirt in to many motors from running dry filters.i would not ride it very long with motor oil on it because all the oil eventualy goes to the bottom of the filter

Motor oil is better than no oil. Its been used in the past and running without oil over motor oil is stupid. Its not tacky like air filter oil but it still collects dust.

The answer is simple... wait until you can pick up the oil... unless you like damaging your engine.
