Any one running a 250r clutch in there 400ex ?

Is it a 8 fiber and 7 plates ?

What year's and is it a trx 250 or the CR 250r ?

I was told you can run the 250r clutch but they dont know witch one it is or what year to run in it.

Any help would be nice.

I've never done it but was told it could be done with the trx250R, they are thinner an so you can use more....I bought a 1999 EX in 2000 an put heavy duty clutch springs from White Brothers in it an after a zillion hours, MX races, Grand prix's, Harescrambles, multiple top end builds..416 to 428 back to 406 it still has the original clutch....

i told you on your other 2 or 3 threads a few months ago that i am not sure if you can run those in it. Id go with an 8 plate hinson or something and see how that did. fibers and plates arent that much for the r, buy some and see if they work. then report back to us. steve

supposedly one of the 8 plate setups use the r plates and fibers, it is probably the hinson setup but the basket is required as far as i have found out since even though the plates are thinner, the whole setup is still thicker than the stock 400 setup. Give hinson a call or something and see what they say. steve

I run the full Hinson setup and use the OEM 250R plates to achieve the 8 plate deal. I can't tell you for sure if you can use the 250R plates with a stock clutch as i've never tried it before.

Then there are kits like the Sparks Racing 8 plate kit, that comes with just the plates/springs and goes right into the stock clutch with no mods. I SUSPECT this kit to use 250R or similar clutch plates in order to do this. I don't know first hand though. In the description it says: "This kit will fit into you stock basket or into an aftermarket (like Hinson) stock sized clutch basket. " So if they are in fact the 250R plates I run in my Hinson setup, then they should work in a stock 400EX basket.

I would give Sparks a call and ask, it's the only way to know for sure: http://www.alwaysopenmall.com/layouts/02/unsecure/item.asp?SiteID=223&DepartmentID=85&CategoryID=949&GroupID=7034&ItemID=36574&StartNum=1&Sort=&ShowPics=0&ListByCode=1&Brand=&GenderAgeGroupID=0&MaxPrice=&SearchString=&ItemCode=&IsOnlyOnSale=0&FromHomePage=0&FromFamily=0&ProductFamilyID=0&RelatedItemID=0

just buy the sparks kit, im pretty sure they are either 300ex or 250r spec plates but why try and piece the kit together when they sell it already. just sayin.....

I agree with ya on that one, the Sparks kit is the best value out there IMO.
