my newly aquired puppy Georgia Peach, for the record i don't think I could own anything but a hound dog. I'v had about everything under the sun ,and my pure breed beagle,my new pure breed bloodhound pup, and my girlfriends beagle mix have been the coolest dogs iv ever seen. they are very loyal and its a nightmare to keep them from running the tree rows. the natural instinct of these animals is crazy.

Georgia Peach
at six weeks, 2 weeks before I picked her up.

going to try and train my bloodhound to trail humans figured it would only be right.

Here's our new pup Leela. This was on her first camping trip. This is also my first dog. Not sure what breed she actually is, but I'm sure it's a combination of things... anyone want to guess? We rescued her back in September of this year and she was about 8 weeks old when we got her. She definitely has some hound in her, nose is always on the ground working.

Yeah it's just because it's a bulldog and everyone assumes OH GOD PITBULL. I've heard they're really mild tempered dogs. I want the kind you have too. I'm not crazy about the way Johnson types look. I definitely prefer the Scott type. How much does yours weigh? I hear they average well over 100 pounds

She has really lanky legs though, definitely a beagle face, but our friends beagle can walk right under her now. She has more of a walker coon hound body/build from what I've been searching. Definitely some sort of Hound in her. She does NOT howl at all though, regular dog barks. I know that beagle howl all too well haha.

Yeah she's 6months old today actually, that pic was taken in mid November. The way she is sitting hides her really long hind legs. When she sleeps on the couch you can bring her hind legs up and touch her nose with them, they're LONG! I'll get some new pics today when I get home. She's 33lbs now.

My first guess is also that there is some Beagle in her ,
Head shape, snout lenght/width, shory coat, with no "leg Feathers", no "Feathering" in the tail hair, and her general girth.
Alot of this can be due to the pic appears to have been taken as a pup.

I can't quite figure out what the other parts of her are...
but a couple things I see in the pic,
(and this MAY just also be due to the angle of her, in the pic)...

Is the top of her head seems to be a little flatter than the average Beagles head, (Between the ears, and behind the brows), (Aren't Beagles heads, usually VERY rounded on top?, sometimes even almost "round and pointy" ?).
I suppose I could be wrong on that, but I seem to remember that from my Beagle's head, that I had as a kid.

also her ears are not as long or rounded as Beagle ears. they seem/look shorter, and more triangle shaped.
Similar to my Brit's ears.

then last,
(and I'm not sure if it would even count),..
is the "rhone spots" in her coat.
Maybe some Beagles DO have some of this in their colorings, I'm just not familiar with it in a Beagle, as am used to seeing it in a Brittany, or other types of spaniels.

So I'm voting that YES there is deffinately a Beagle predominance in her,.... but with some Spaniel influences, (possibly a Brittany).

the triangle ears, flatter head top, longer legs, and possibly rhone spots, are whats making me think she's also got some spaniel in her.
( But if so,.... Then I'd also think that there would be at least SOME Feathering in the hair/coat, espesially at the rear sides of her front legs, and in her hind quarters.)

"Nose to the ground", would also be VERY strong characteristic in both types.

Does she have Webbing in the pads of her paws ?
if so, this would also suggest some sort of Water Sporting Dog is in her.

She looks like a GREAT dog, and take a little advice from someone who just went through a very tough and tramatic time with almost losing our beloved Brit, Brandy,...

Get her chipped right away, and always,.. Always,... ALWAYS,.... keep a collar on her with your contact info.

It's the ONLY reason we got our beloved Brandy back, after she spent an Unimaginable 22 days, in the Desert.,, where there is lots of Coyotes, very little water, freezing cold at night, almost no food other than maybe a rat or lizard,
(and I doubt she could catch a healthy jackrabbit, Hell,... I cant catch one on my modded 400ex! LOL!)
Here's a pic of her on her way home from picking her up in the desert.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/IMG_2645.jpg

Losing her for that period of time, was one of the toughest things I've ever dealt with. I had almost given up hope on her.
But Santa (who's real name, is now a lady named Renee), Found her and let her come home for Christmas.
DAMN!, I love that dog.
As I know you do too., so go get that I.D. on,(and IN) her, ASAP.

Have a great day,
Ron

just an fyi microchips are only good if a dog is lost and found and taken to a vet or animal control picks it up. if its lost in a remote area then the microchips are useless.

the best thing to do if you want to let the dog loose or it turns up missing again is to get a set of gps tracking collars. as a hunter we often use tracking collars to located the hunting dogs and it works very effective. they might be a little spendy but you have to ask yourself if your dog is worth the cost of a tracking collar and tracker box

From what I've seen so far,
the hunters seem to prefer the types with the handheld radios for use in the field.
but I have also seen another one, (dont remember the brand right now), that is actuallly trackable by the GPS satallities, and can be pulled up on your PC through there website.
Batery life seemed a little better on those too,... but yeah, a little spendy, and they even have a monthly bill of 4 or 5 dollars too.

Are you familiar with different brands, models, styles, etc., ?
I'd LOVE to hear from folks like yourself, who have personally used them, and what your likes, and dislikes are about them.
range, price, battery lifes, durability, anything, good-bad-or otherwise.

oh btw,.... you cheated,....
your supposed to vote or guess on what kind of mix you think is in 400EXRIDER707's dog. :D

far as the dog its def some sort of beagle mix

but i dont have any experience with them. most of the guys we hunted with who owned the dogs was the ones who had them. i just know that if you planned on letting the dog run that would be the way to go.

far as places to buy id check places like bassproshops.com or cabelas.com most places like that have a thing now where u can read reviews on the products. ive often found those reviews very helpful

Thanks for the insight Ron! She does have webbing inside of her paws between her toes actually... I took a bunch more pics this past weekend, I will get them up tonight when I get home!

I was reading your lost dog thread the whole time, I was ecstatic to hear you had found her, what a great story!

She is chipped already. My gf's father is a VET, so we get any all care for free of charge, as well as all the dog food we want! I'm not going to lie, it helps tremendously!!!

I will get more pics up tonight. Her face is beagle like, though the ears are different like you suggested. Her legs are outgrowing her body at this point haha. She does have the brown spots starting to come through even more. She's always had them on her belly and all over under the fur, but now starting to get them coming through the fur, and yes beagles do have them. Her primary play buddy is our friends beagle so I get to see the two of them side by side a lot. She has the exact same colors/patterns as your Brittany does, just short hair and a different face. We actually got one of those doggy DNA kits for shoots and giggles to see what actually she is. Should be interesting. Just swab her mouth and send them out. I think it's something like 1 1/2 week turn around time. Should be sent out this week.

ROBS08YFZ - nice dogs. I originially wanted a boxer pup, but just couldn't justify the money they want for the pups around here. Couldn't find one for under $500. Didn't make sense when we could just rescue one, and pay less. Eventually we will have a boxer, but for now I love this little pup.

Also yes the chip we have is only good if someone finds her, you need to bring them to a vet so they can wave the "wand" over the chip area and it brings up owner name and the vet the dog regularly sees. Had her chipped right at home on the living room couch, lucky dog.

Ok here's a few more of my pup now that she's 6 months. She's grown quite a bit.

You can kind of see how long her legs are getting. Her hind legs are even longer than the fronts, but I didn't get a good picture of her standing up on all 4's DOH! This is her next to my gf's sister's pup (lab mix).

A little too big for her old puppy bed, but she lays in this anyways even though there's a giant bed next to this for her haha
