They will be alright for casual to moderate trail riding. The centers have been known to break apart during XC races. The Tech3's are much more durable.

I don't follow MX closely enough to say that they fail in that type of riding. But, I think the reason they aren't any good for XC is because they can't take any lateral pressure (sliding sideways into a rock, tree, etc). The Tech3's have a completely aluminum center, so the lateral strength would be greater. I don't see an MX track causing as much lateral pressure on the wheel, as an XC course would.

they both have there ups and downs iv seen hipers break racing mx and iv seen douglass's(aluminum) crushed mx racing. The way i look at it is hipers your can replace certain part of the wheels douglass or aluminum you have to buy a whole new wheel.

just my way of thinking.

so in my mind for what you need hipers will work just fine its not like they are wheels made just for show they can take a beating.

I race mx and I would buy at least 2 sets of aluminum wheels each year in 05 I got 2 sets of hipers and never had to buy another set. Just a few rings. The bad thing is I don't get $ for the aluminum scrap anymore.
