When I bought my Ex the tool box was missing and after a few times of getting a flat and wishing I had Plugs on me I began to look for a new tool box. I can find the OEM plastic one but was woundering if any one knew where to find an aftermarket one or even if they make them I just cant seem to find one.
PLEASE HELP.

ABS or PVC pipe and some metal strapping. Some guys have used ammo boxes too and moved the electronics inside it.

I have thought about making my own. but was really hoping for a nice aluminum one or somthing along the lines of that. If I can't find a nice aftermarket one then I will just make my own I never liked how small the OEM box's looked. I had never thought of useing an ammo box that could work thanks for the idea.

Yep, ammo box is popular. I never seen an aluminum one.

when you take out the baffeling and packing its not very dirty on my bikes. i just wipe out any residue with lacquer thinner and then was with soap and water and it looks good as new.

if i had to make one, it would be pvc

i dont think they make an aftermarket one, or at least i have never found one in my searches.

you could possibly check out a 250r box. they are bigger and square so you could fit more stuff in them. it probably wont bolt right up but with some fabbing it would. you could just bolt a plate to the 250r box and then mount using the 400 holes.

Im thinking a 3 inch diameter abs pipe would work best. PVC becomes brittle in cold and over time.

Just bolt a plate to it or use some pipe strapping and bingo.

I used to use an MX fender tool bag that had cam lock straps and just strap it on to my subframe or under my front fender. Always stayed out of the way where you couldnt really even see it and never fell off. Holds alot more stuff then the traditional atv plastic tool box things.

I like the idea of the Ammo box but am worried its to big and will bottom out when I jump the quad. I really dont want to get a plastic tool box so I have started to make my own out of stainless steal. Its a little heavy but im not to worried. All I have left to finish on it is the lid, then sand the whole thing with 80 grit, then 180 grit, and then finish with wet sanding and buffing to get the shine back. After buffing it I will decide if I want to paint "400EX" in a red met, and clear coat the whole box. I will post pictures later when im on my home computer.
Thanks for all the ideas.

Lets us know how yours turns out and post some pics. i used the ammo box idea as dudemc posted, Some pics of mine are in his link as well. I;ve ridden all year with it on all year and never had a problem with it bottoming out. I dont even think it's possible, the ammo box stays out of the way. The nice thing about the ammo box is it's got room for a ton of stuff and the lid and latch that the ammo box uses keeps everything dry inside.

If the one im makeing doesnt work I think I will try the ammo box and see how that works out for me.

This is where I am at so far with the one im makeing. I still need to make a lid, silicone the seals, sand the whole thing with 80grit, 180grit, and wet sand and buff the whole thing.

Sorry the pictures are so big. took them with my Iphone and dont have time to re-size.

no offense buuuuut what did you use to weld that? Looks like you used flux core wire with a harbor freight welder. Stainless should always be welded with a tig unless you have a descent spool gun with stainless wire and a good machine. I know its just a tool box and doesnt have to be strong but im just sayin if you did use a flux core you better clear coat it very well because the edges will rust extremely quick once you clean up all the slag (assuming you didnt use stainless welding wire which it doesnt look as if you did).

To my understanding the machine is a good one, I'm new to welding and figured it be good practice.
I was using a mig welder with normal wire not stainless, and at one point I was welding with out the argon gas on >.< rookie mistake. With help from the grinder and wire wheel it looks a lot better now. Iv decided to paint it not sure if I'm painting the whole thing and then painting "400ex" on it or what but I know it's all getting covered with the clear coat.
