Or a flat black

I think that combo would look pretty sweet but up to you.

Would look better if the frame was painted or PC

I race MX so thats why, and the motor has no work done to because of the class i use to run when i was younger didn't allow it. I now have everything taken out for work. The motor will remain stock for the moment because i need to get it all back together and i don't have time to get a P&P until febuary... Besides i don't need a fast engine to be fast, its all in the rider...

I totally agree with your logic, i just train harder and more often than the guys i race with. So i can race faster for longer. I am definetly doing some engine work though before the Championship in August.

There was a write up awhile ago where a guy talked about doing it to his EX.

Im pretty sure it would work since all those covers are for an XR400 anyways I think...

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=453638&highlight=clutch+cover

Im not 100% sure about needing a hinson basket either. But the picture on page 2 doesnt look like a hinson.

Guy with the pics never mentioned it.

If you check the other thread, togup replied to me and he stated he is using all stock parts. All he had to mod was the length of the clutch lever on the engine (probably could use an XR400) and the clutch cable stay.

Any cover for an XR400 will work.

Im gonna do it for the heck of it sooner or later once I iron out some other stuff. Just makes it more custom and easier to yank the clutch out if you want.

12-26-2010, 02:36 PM

Im thinking even if you use the stock XR400 covers, would be cool to have the clutch cover itself powder coated or something. Could also shine it up too.

You use it and the xr400 clutch cover=quick change clutch cover. So instead of yanking off the entire side case you just pull the clutch cover and voila you can get to the clutch.

trailrider do you ride with your shocks facing forward or backward? i thought about this when i installed them but i went with the stock setup with them facing back. i was worried they may catch more debris facing up front, not that it really matters.

scro there is none on ebay...I said clutch cover not case cover...I need or want an aftermarket removable clutch cover the xr, side cases are verywhere i knew that but have a hard time finding a hinson or anyother romovable clutch cover!! thanks for lookin though:D

Well if you cannot find an aftermarket cover (I did not even see a stock clutch cover on ebay but plenty of XR case covers) you could always buy a stock one new for $97 I believe from bikebandit. I could not check servicehonda to see if it was any cheaper, site must have been down earlier. At least that would get you rolling until you could come across a nice aftermarket one later if you would like to make use of the XR quick change now.

426kidz
12-30-2010, 11:48 AM
well i was plannin on gettin the stock one and having pappy paint it black and have a nice grey on the case and leave it alone...just too give it the nicer look sense it is winter and i have time too make it pretty and functional. But he says nope, cant PC that piece I think its too weak or somethin idk?:(

bkb88
12-30-2010, 02:10 PM
I'm sure you could find someone besides him to do it. It sounded like he was uncomfortable doing it because he did not want to cause any leaks or something and didn't want to be liable. You should check around for some local powdercoaters and see what they would charge for just that little piece. Someone is bound to be up for making a few extra bucks to help you out.

426kidz
12-30-2010, 11:20 PM

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m14/thebutelr/SANY0237.jpg
I'm not a big fan of the aftermarket grab bars available for the 400 that bolt up with u-bolts. How much was the 450r grab bar?

426kidz
01-01-2011, 11:17 AM
That AC one was around 70 dollars shipped off ebay, I think it looks really nice too, I like the simple look and the black...but you can get black or silver and install took about a hour.:D

trailrider894

I don't think i would be comfortable cutting off a hunk of my subframe for a grab bar.

bkb88
01-04-2011, 09:57 AM
Well it's not like it is in a part that compromises the structural integrity of the subframe, it's just the grab bar. So is the speeding ticket including court supervision?

But i would imagine that it all plays a roll. If the rear grab bar is cut off that holds the sides together., then you cutting off a main component would cause problems right?

bkb88
01-04-2011, 10:20 AM
Well if you take a look at any other bike that requires a removable grab bar they are basically the same thing as what he has done here. All that is holding the end of the subframe together is the plate that holds the seat grommets and hook for the seat latch. To each their own, I myself came from an atv with the luxury of having a removable grab bar so I am partial to this mod.

Im not going too court just gonna pay it not worth my time the guy was a dick... and the grab bar is the nicest little add on i love it, also does not take anything away from the subframe at all. makes no sense to say it would sense it is pretty much seperate and is only there in case you flip it backwards and this one is very very strong, makes the bike look alot better and takes the old bent one that every 400ex has away....so yeah Its a nice add on.

bkb88
01-04-2011, 10:54 AM
Well I was meaning court supervision to keep it off of your record so your insurance won't go up. In Illinois you don't have to appear in court for it, just pay the extra amount to get on court supervision when you pay your ticket. The laws are probably different in Ohio.

AtvKid4Eva
01-04-2011, 02:02 PM
the structural support stops where the seat latch is after that the grab bar is just there for protection. trust me this this is solid! and this way if it bends it can be replaced easily :D
