Okay guys this is my first time completly taking my 450r apart. I'm getting it done pretty early because i plan on doing some ice riding here soon.

I'm not changing much on the quad just replacing worn out parts and greasing/cleaning all of the parts. The biggest difference will be getting my frame powdercoated.

New parts i'm getting
-graphics
-poly skid plate
-new tires/wheels
-powdercoating frame
-and i'm going to send my shocks off too gt thunder

Tell me what you guys think!
Here is a pic of the quad before.

I knew the swingarm bolt had never been out before so i soaked it with amsoil penetrating oil for days!

I called around to local powdercaoting shops and i found one about 5 min from me who said they could do everything for $100. (frame, subframe, an motor mounts) I did all of the sandblasting myself at school for a project. I also welded up a few cracks before powdercoating.

Here it is all done! i tried to get as close of a red to the a-arms as i could

Red Baron Red is what my local powder shop calls the original 250r red.

Mine was powder coated 2 years ago but I want to redo it bad but I have never attempted anything like this. How much trouble is it with bearing and seals?

Honda4life05
12-19-2010, 08:24 PM
The only bearing on the frame is the stem bearing, but it's easy to take out. Just take your time and take lots of pictures! i bagged and labeled all of my bolts so i wouldn't lose any..

What exactly did you do here besides powdercoat the frame?

Honda4life05

I went through and replaced most of the bearings as well as greased everything up. I had to weld up a few cracks in the frame before i powdercoated it and i had a few threads in the frame that needed retapped. For the new parts i got a poly skidplate, graphics, new tires/wheels, and sending my shockes to get revalved. I'll post pics when it's done!

according to the manual the exact torque spec is.... "securely" just set your torque wench to that

just a quick question, with those a-arms,do they hold up? and i herd you dont have to run exstened brake lines? is that true? im looking at a pair for my 06 trx450,just wanted to get alittle info from someone who has um before i buy um

Honda4life05
12-24-2010, 09:51 AM
I would have thought it had a torque spec because of the crush gasket. Most people don't know what "secure" is, as you can see with all of the "stripped oil drain bolt" threads. hey if you have a torque wrench why not use it..

I got the burgard a-arms before last mx season and they have held up very well. Even running stock shocks they have held up the abuse. After taking them off of the frame everything still looks good on them beside a little chipping like all of them do. You don't need extended brake lines if you have a stock stem. mine are +2. One thing to be weary of is the time it takes to get them from burgard, i got mine quick but i've heard burgard's service has gone downhill..

As it sits now without graphics and the new wheels/tires. for some reason the lighting makes the plastics look pink but you get the idea!
