There is another thread about this under the Cannondale/ATK folder that says Highland closed there doors!!

I bet that pic is from Walsh... I read they were working on the frames for Highland.

This is what led to the crf walsh is building.. you can see the similarities in the chassis's, if you look at the crf pics compared to the highland pics. I bet that thing would be insane. That aprilla motor that either pinit or 97 rocks has would be cool also.

my bad, I didn't read the link. I thought when you said "I wonder how they died?" you were referring to the company closing. Awkward......

I've seen 2 things on this... One was they were too far along after the tragedy to just stop production and the Wives took the reins and have it moving along (I forget where I saw read that, I want to saw an older Dirtwheels)... The second thing was that they are expecting a bike by the middle of 2011... I saw that while thumbing through a Dirtwheels yesterday.

Go checkout ushighlands forums. They are out of business... for now. They claim they are getting more US money from investors to back them up and them some. The Swedes pulled out, they didn't like working with the Americans... (just what it said on the forums...) fwiw.

Not to argue, just citing where I read it... My guess is something more happened after the mag went to print?

Jan '11 Dirtwheels, page 8...
"Although it's unclear when the first Highlandwill be sold, we're watching carefully and expect it to happen later in 2011. This is a very high-tech 450 that will be manufactured in Glenpool, Oklahoma. The motor is a Swedish-designed EFI single, and the aluminum frame can trace its roots back to the Cannondale."

I forget what magazine I read about the company continuing on with the Women in charge... It's not in any of the mags I have kicking around. I would love to see these bikes hit the market.

And I know not to believe everything I read in Dirtwheels... I mainly grab it so I have some pretty pictures to look at while I'm on the "throne", lol...

I'd be inclined to believe that. A friend married a woman from Sweden; socialist all the way through. She's real quick to make "stupid American" remarks to people you think she considers friends, tries to make them feel beneath her, but gets all in a huff when you make a quick comeback.

But maybe Husaberg is still bitter over their turning away John Penton back in the 60's when he tried to get them to build dirt bikes his way, causing him to contract with KTM, proceed to revolutionize the dirt bike industry and, eventually, give KTM the means to buy out Husaberg.

Is the 700 still awkward like the 660? They made a big deal about how much they improved it over the 660, which I refuse to sit on ever again.

/end tangent

i rode my friends neighbors 700 over the summer. it was terrible compared to a 250r or 400ex. to me it feels like it has the wrong chassie for that powerful of a motor. i would like to see someone stuiff that powerplant in a 250r walsh or laeger chassie.

it seems highland was able to get that big bore sitting very low. it also helps that its a v-twin to lower its center of gravity.
