View Full Version : 416 mod
I am close to installing an 87mm (416) piston in my 1999. My intention is to keep the stock cam and pipe and Uni air filter. Any jetting recommendations to run at 300'?

The XR cam and a slip-on pipe would help your setup out alot.
A slip on pipe is out due to noise. How is the XR cam different from the EX cam?

I`m not sure. Ask Rico. I know it adds power because guys are always talking about it. For a $120 it sounds like a good deal.

mod ur stock pipe thats what i did for now....
I agree, you should throw in the XR cam while the motor's apart.
I didn't cam mine when I put in the 10.8:1 JE piston in, a year later I had it apart putting in a webcam.
I wouldn't get anything more agressive than the XR cam, however, since you're not putting a pipe on. With anything more agressive, the quad won't run right with the stock pipe (jetting it correctly gets kinda funky). You might have to open the airbox up a little as well (bigger cams like to breathe). You don't have to take the lid off completely, just drill some holes in the lid (or make one big one at the rear of the lid - so water can't get in).
Best to buy a handful of incrementally larger main jets, and put the largest one in. You want the quad to stumble on acceleration. Then put the next size smaller jet in, and repeat til it rev's clean; you may want to drop one size down more after it rev's clean.
Raise the needle by lowering the clip one notch for the midrange (may not be needed if you don't open up the airbox and/or cam it).

dont do the 416 kit without the xr400 cam. If u want a somewhat silent muffler look at my setup below. I just installed the 416 kit with xr400 cam and its like riding a totally different quad. It now has uninhibited raw power.
good luck,
mike
make sure u get the viton valve seals
