I am starting this thread so we have a reference for our selves and any fellow 250r enthusiast in the market for a new crank. I feel it would be good to make a single reference point for this topic because it has come up countless times in other threads, which was totally off original topic. Please only post your vote and comment on cranks that YOU personally have experience with. Please feel free to explain the problem, or leave positive feedback for a specific crank, pictures, and how many hours of operation the crank had. Thanks, Will.

This is my Wiseco crank after about 4 tanks of gas. Stay with a OEM.

Looks like people are voting before reading to me.

I think you are right. I'm not sure how to fix this, or make them read. Lol.

I cant comment on any crank but oem. Never had an oem crank fail. I have owned 4 different trx250r and 1 atc250r.

The only oem crank i saw trashed was in the quad i have now. I got it cheap cause it was locked up. Antifreeze was gettin in the crankcase.

They were reusing the headgasket and i guess it didnt seal.

Hard to blame the crank for shody assembly.

I had a Hot Rod crank that the tins came off like atv fan 28 Wisco crank. Could not tell you how many ours were on it. It came in my Bike when i bought it.

this is my wiseco crank after about 6 hours ride time. not sure what causes this but you could actually spin the tins on the crank about 1/4 inch in both directions.

please guys this poll is for CRANK FAILURES... NOT WHAT CRANK YOU PREFER. i think people have been voting without reading the title.

i have an engine with a hotrods crank and it has held up well. through two different cylinders, different carbs and through numerous tuning sessions(where there were lean conditions).

i had it trued and balanced. maybe that is the key. i also opted not to have the crank pin welded.

Wiseco crank, around the 6-8 hour mark.

Hotrods crank running strong in my 340PV, 50+ hours. Everybody prefers OEM, I know, and I probably would have gone OEM also, but I bought the engine used, the original owner was the one that put the Hotrods crank in it. The whole motor was rebuild by Duncan, they checked the crank, no problems, so I decided to run with it.

The original motor I had in my quad was stock bore/stroke, OEM crank, and the crank bearings went out.

over the years, I have gone through 3 OEM cranks. Id say they last ~5-7 years. the failure point in every one of them was the big end crank bearings failing. have been running a Hotrods for 5 years...

To the OP, you might as well delete this thread and start another. Many of the brilliant minds on this forum didn't read the title of the poll.

I have never had a failure with a Honda crank, I've ran a few. Have only ran one Wiseco, still have it, so far so good. Have only ran one Hot Rods, was in an engine when I got it, not a ton of hours, rod bearing on crank failed, has a ton of up and down play.

redo. theres no way at least 14 of those 16 that voted oem meant they failed.

i don't think people are reading the head line correctly. i would vote but i have never had a crank go on me. i don't even know what brand i'm running now because i bought my R used. what ever is in there it sure runns good.

Just delete the first post. It will delete the whole thread.

I reset the poll, and reworded the question. Maybe it will help.

It wont let me vote again after the poll was reset.....

I can change the poll and the votes, but I can't "reset" it to allow you to vote again.

The only thing I can do is delete the thread, and let you start a new one.

Personally, I think the poll portion of it is useless, but that's just my opinion. I'm firmly convinced that well over half the people that hate hotrods have never had any experience with one, good or bad. They just vote because they've heard it on here.

I'm much more interested in the content of the thread, exactly what we have here. The posts, the actual, honest, personal experiences with the different brands. I like to know who is using what, and the successes as well as the failures.

But I'll do whatever you guys want to do. If you want me to delete the thread and start another, I can do that. What I would request from YOU guys, if I did that, is to re-create the content that is already here, to repost the pictures and personal experiences that we've already collected.

I put my pic up earlier. That wiseco crank was junk, just like most of 'em. I've never run a hot rods, so I can't comment on that. I'm currently running a stock rebuilt crank with a prox rod and have no problems since.

I've had a hot rods fail on me, but never a stocker. the rod broke at the big end and ruined everything except the transmission shafts. I always use oem. the hot rods crank failed after about 20 hours.

Someone voted other. I'm not sure who else makes cranks for the r. Could you tell us?

Other could possibly encompass a stock rebuild with a different rod, or something like that.

hey will: the plant manager for the company i work for now use to be an applications engineer for Wiseco. i had mentioned to him about "his" cranks being junk. he agrreed. going to get a full report from him about what is/went on with the cranks.

i can't believe there wasn't a recall? was there ever?

did wiseco ever refund your money for damages?

I think Wiseco and Hot Rods are both made by the same company and in China to boot.

I had a Hot Rod rebuild OEM 89 crank done by LRD and that thing lasted only a few hours and the big end bearing was toast. This was back in 1999 and that was the first and last time I wanted to use them.

I've had OEM Honda cranks fail on the big end as well but only after a lot of time on them.

Last time I talked to Falicon, they said they'd design a billet crank for a minimum of 20 orders.

However, I think the billet cranks are really expensive, like in the realm of $800 or so.

i have owned and rode at least 10 250rs and all had oem cranks and the only failers was the big end rod bearing going because the motor had sand run thru it and never from just being worn out
