so i have a 2001 400ex with race plastics so there is no room for lights on them and im lookin for an idea of what type of lights i should get. Im pretty sure the idiot that had the quad before me ****ed up the wires so im lookin for something that would come with its own harness. i had the trail tech lights on it for about 10 min and they kept blowing out so now that company will not deal with me so im trying to avoid buying anything from them because theyre known for lasting for 15 min.

Im planning on putting some of those little LEDS on mine as soon as I fix a few other things. 2 mounted to the frame between the bumper and plastics is my plan.

Ive been thinking of using some steel or aluminum and making a mount to connect to the frame using some small u bolts or such from home depot. I think it could work. That or use 1 piece across the entire front.

Im slating this project after xmas.

yeah im thinkin about makin a bracket coming off of the top of my shock mount so they work from there or from the frame im not sure yet

Im thinking same rough area myself. I think a piece of flat bar and some small U bolts should do the trick quite well.

I am in the exact same boat as you. I bought a 400 with race plastic and the smart guy that had it before me cut up the wires for the lights to rig up some goofy looking cheap walmart lights on the handlebars. I am very interested in how this turns out!

ended up with the vision x solstice 2in square lights. one is a euro beam that lights up 250ft wide x 60ft deep and i also got the flood beam which i think it said went 1500ft deep x 10ft wide and with that combo they look sick. i went out all night last night in the snow and my 2 lights were brighter than all the other bikes combined. im going to be getting these for every quad i own if they hold up good. i also got a wire harness from them for $30 and the whole thing ran me about 275 i think and was well worth it so far.

NICE! Where did you buy them and did you mount them on the frame or put them in the headlight housing?

How about finding a HID light kit with the new harness. They will be much brighter like on the new cars, Pro armor has a kit for this. Or i seen on Fischers ATV that Warn is makeing really bright lights and harnesses.

Problem is the HID kit might not get enough power from the stator. The reason the LEDS work so well is they are small, draw less than 1 amp and will run for a zillion hours-they are also quite cheap.

Ya,
There are some great improvements throught he use of LED's
Just for the FUN of it and as an EXPERIMENT I mounted an extra ,wide angle light on my bar clamps. I fabricated a bracket to mount the light to my bar mounts just above the key switch. I LOVE IT! especially in tight woods riding because the turning light now lights up the area you are heading instead of straight in front of the bike. (Which is NOT where you are going to be goiing in a very tight turn). I wired it to my high beams and it has a seperate 'off' switch mounted to the back of the light housing, for when not needed or wanted.
I know this is not for everyone, BUT in tight woods at night...
IT IS A LIFE SAVER!!

Ride FAST, have FUN !!

these lights use less power, last longer and are brighter then any hid ive ever seen for their size i plan on putting them on every bike i own. when i was out in the woods with a bunch of other guys they could all turn on on their lights and they didnt even come close to mine. i have a 3 inch plate off the bar clamps with the lights mounted under it (to protect them from anything when i flip) and the key and light switch in the middle of the plate on the top. i plan in trying to wire them up the the stock wires but i think i have a problem with the harness because im getting nothing from the wires.

thats the only pic i have of how i mounted it. this bike had a 300ex light on it thats why that plates there so i just figure i would use the same one and it worked out well. i had anoher set of lights under the fenders and they got hit by everything so i figured i would keep these ones up top and its better how they go with the bars.

Pretty much exactly what I was planning on doing sooner or later. You like the euro and flood beams the best ya think?

weeman69xx303
01-24-2011, 07:47 PM
yeah thats was the best way to go. i wasnt sure what i wanted to do with the bike so i called up the company and the guy there said he has the same set up on his quad so i went with it and its perfect. my old lights were both like the flood beams so they went far but not really wide enough so with both i can see as far and as wide as i need to and they turn with the bars so it works out. all the guys i ride with hate them because theyre so bright i blind them when i come at them

Yea, ones a flood and ones a euro beam. I checked into it and they are about 100 bucks each. However they are super bright.
