I ordered a cometic xr400 top end gasket kit yesterday and had it overnighted to me so i could get my bike back together for my dune trip this weekend.

Gasket cam this moring and they sent me one for a 400ex. So i call them up she tells me that they are an identical gasket and that i have the right one. I explain to her no they are not, the xr400 is thinner gasket and thats the one i want. She just says that they have the same part number for them.

I payed more for shipping than i did for the gaskets, and i could have bought the 400ex head gasket here in town.

Im so pissed right now. She said they would credit me the 21.99 for the gaskets but not the $30 shipping.

This is their **** up not mine, i should get all my money back.

Apparently this is my mess up. I Called Cometic and they told me they only make 1 gasket for the 400ex and the xr400. The difference in thickness is OEM only i guess?

If i wasnt going to the dunes i would. But i dont want my first ride on it to be way out there and have it blow.

I bet you it would hold though!

It will be fine. It is just a bit thicker which will actually probably last a bit longer.

There are 2 different gaskets made by Cometic that you are looking for. The problem is that both fit the XR and EX. So, it isn't Rocky Mountain's fault for the one that you got, you did get what you asked for. It is just that you were not specivic enough is all. Remember, the people that you talk to on the phone don't necessarily ride the same machine as you and don't know every part that they sell (heck, some operators don't know ANY!).
What your options are:
1) a thinner gasket which is a few metal plates or
2) a thicker gasket which is all fiber

I assume that you are looking for the metal gasket, (the thinner one) Just remember next time, the gaskets are interchangable between the XR and EX! The thicker one will work fine for you to get thru the weekend. In fact, you are less likely to blow that one than you are the thinner one because you have slightly less compression with the one that you recieved. In the famous words of Tom Carlson from TC Racing Engines, "Just ride it boy!"
