Can I buy just an adjustable Needle

Hey guys, I already bought my jets for my 426 individually from Rocky Mountain, my question is where can I buy just the adjustable needle from? I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and get one in there, but I dont want to have to buy the whole dynojet kit to get it.

as far as i have ever heard honda doesnt offer just the needle but ive never checked for this one. it comes in the rebuild kit i think. maybe service honda would have a seperate number for it though, id check there first then go from there. steve

call the dynojet 1-800 they can send you just the needle.

really? i have a dynojet needle with the keihen 42 pilot and the 152 main.

and it runs fine.

then you got lucky. it is a different taper than the stock one so it leans out the mid range compared to a stock in the same spot. I have never ever had good luck mixing a dj needle with stock jets. steve

goto like albaaction.com or a site where they sell oem parts and get a stock 400ex needle from a year they still had the adjutable needle. Or go on ebay and search for a needle.

I already tried ebay, what years did the 400s have adjustable needles? Are they the same idea as the dyno jet ones that use clips

99-04 used regular adjustable needles. they have notches as the dj ones do. steve

are you sure that's right because most people leave the stock pilot when they do a dynojet kit so they really only replace the main jet and the needle jet? is that what your'e saying that the stock main jet doesn't go with the dynojet needle so if i have a dynojet needle i should have a dynojet main jet as well?

correct. dj needle and jets are recommended to work together. I have actually heard of the dj needle getting stuck in the stock jets but havent witnessed it myself. you would probably require a 138 main equivalent with the adaptor out of the kit to run the correct setup for a slip on with a filter and the lid on. this would take the f/a out to 3.5
turns out and you would be good to go. although i dont know your setup but by the sounds of it, you have both a filter and a slip on.

if you are running just a filter with the lid on your 152 is most likely rich enough to compensate for the dj needle being lean. this makes your mid range jetting fine but has a bit rich on the main circuit. that minute amount probably isn't noticeable but it is still rich none the less. since the 400 carb is pretty forgiving in that respect compared to others. It can be pretty rich and still run pretty good.

yeah i have a 152 main with a dj needle and it runs great. I'll see if i can get the 152 keihen switched over to the dj conversion, not sure what it will do but i'll keep it all dj if that is necessary.

it's run fine so far though i think the dj needle is fine witht he stock jets to be honest.

if it runs good then leave it. :D no biggy really as long as it runs right. most people cant even get them tuned with the dj and keihin mixed around. I am one of them when i switched to my 450r carb and when i did my 416 with my stock carb. I couldnt get it to run good to save my life but i was doing the opposite. i ran the jets with the stock needle in the 400 carb. the 450 carb was the needle with stock jets. steve

so, i've got a question since i just learned that these parts don't mix.

on my 416 i've got the stock adjustable needle since it's the older model it has that.

can i put dynojet main jets in there or do i need to put the dynojet needle in it too?

basically i used my dynojet needle for my newer one since it was not adjustable, i didn't have to use dynojet main jets because i already had a 152 kehen that worked great..

my older one has a stock adjustable needle and i don't want to swap them because my 2007 is running dead on right now. Can i put some dj jets in there while keeping the stock needle?

give it a shot and find out if it works out ok for you. It may or may not work good.

it should, i've been asking people lately and most of them tuned their 400ex with dynojets and they didn't touch the needle, so they are still running the stock needles on stock settings. that's what 2 of my friends are doing right now.

i figure if they aren't having any problems i should be safe.
