I'm rebuilding my 250X engine while I'm redoing the chassis. The new setup will be .080 over, filter, full Supertrapp exhaust, and eventually a 400EX carb. to handle the fuel.

I was looking at stage 1 Hot Cams on ebay for about $130. Are they worth it? Gains???

I'd like to hear some feedback from you 250X/300EX guys running cams...

Thanks.

what are you doing with it though? a web is nicer, but you also have to get hardened rockers and hd spring kits. so around $400 in the end. the hotcams dont require those because, i believe, they arent hardweld cams. anybody gonna back that up because im not positive? if price is no issue, get the web, but the hotcams is supposed to be pretty good. im getting one, but will eventually upgrade to the web.

bigblue02hd -- yesterday I finally got to run my 87 250X, its been a while with the rebuild and all.... anyways, I'm running a FMF powercore exhaust, K&N filter with no lid, stock carb with a 135 main/40 pilot, and a stage 1 hot cam. I noticed a DEF. improvement, especially mid-top end, you can really FEEL the power! Versus the bone stock setup I had before, I am very pleased, plus I just dropped the cam in with no other mods, I would do it again in a heart beat!

Thanks for the replies everyone!!!

Yeah I've heard with most other companies, besides Hot Cam, you'd need hardened rockers, springs, etc. Which obviously is more money in the end.

This is "supposed" to be a "budget build"...haha. So I'd like to keep the costs down. I just figured while it was apart it would be nice to throw a modest cam in it to gain some extra power through the powerband.

CorvetteZ06-- Thanks for the info. My setup will basically be the same as yours, but with the full Supertrapp exhaust mine already had on it and the .080 overbore.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get the Hot Cam. I'm sure it will do fine for me!!!

bigblue02hd - you will be happy, the low-end didn't change much, which is ok cause the 250X/300EX already have enough in my opinion, but the mid-top really woke up! seems like it revs faster and longer also, you won't be disappointed!

i agree entirely, i will be doing the same basic thing with mine. bore it, hot cam, pipe, maybe 400 carb and slight port and polish.
