thats a stock 400ex carb. Looking at your mod list in your signature why do you need/want another stock carb? If you need a new one anyway why not buy an fcr or other larger carb?

for the mods you have if you need a new one throw on a 450r carb

You do not "need" a 450r carb with your mods, but the bike will run better with one so if your carb shopping anyway...
I am not 100% positive but I believe you either need to lose or modify the air box to make the carb work. If you were to get a carb from a trx450r get one from an 06+ that uses the fcr carb. Its the best carb there is for any sport bike or atv.

alright. well i got a rebuild kit for my stock carb, because you helped me on my other thread that was for getting gas in my oil. i put it all back together today and its a ***** to start and wont idle and theres a ton of gas in the intake tube side of the carb. a) i either did somethign wrong, but dont know what or b) the carb is shot im guessing?

Check out this thread it will help you decide if it is right for you or not.I have a bone stock motor with full exhaust,04-05 450r carb and I noticed a big difference in how it performs.

not too may ways a carb can be completely shot. I would guess your floats are just are way off.

I'm guessing the gas in the intake boot is from you blipping the throttle while trying to start it, the accelerator pump is in turn squirting gas into the boot, make sure the fuel screw is 2.5 turns out and the pilot jet is clean and clear, then adjust the idle screw. nothing really sounds out of the ordinary to me other than a clogged pilot jet

Did you remember to put your needle jet back in?When I put the 450r carb on mine,I forgot to do that and it ran like crap popping and blowing out all kind of smoke.I'd pull the carb and go through it again to make sure everything is where its supposed to be.

well i guess im goign to be needing a new idle adjusting cable that goes from the screw to the carb, mine just broke. and i dont know if it has anythign to do with that but when i rev it up the rpms stay high? and also how do i tell if the floats are off/adjust them?

actually i just looked in the manual because ive never adjusted floats on this carb and according to the manual the float should drop 18.5mm (roughly 3/4 of an inch) from its seated position. According to the manual the float on this carb is not adjustable and should be replaced if its out of spec. Seems odd but thats what it says and I dont have one to look at at the moment.

If it were the idle cable/screw it would be running at a high idle as soon as you start it.It would be a good idea to get one of those.I'm pretty sure the float in the ex carb is non adjustable since it is plastic.

hmm then wonder why it wont idle. if im pumpin the gas itll start and ill have to keep revvin it up to keep her goin or itll die. and sometimes it idles with the full choke
