Frame mods from Halls Performance

Upgrading the rear suspension over the winter. Jim at MotoWoz is building us a custom shock for it. We raised the top shock mount so we can use a longer shock (just in case we ever add a 450 engine) and get us up to 10.5" of travel.

We also swapped to 450R MX linkage on the bottom mainly just to get away from the bushings and pain in the *** lower shock bolt. No idea if the leverage ratios are better or worse.

The YFZ shock is just for mock-up.

I did this same type linkage swap on my xc bike and love it, maybe I got lucky on the leverage point. I measured the lower mount on the 450 and tried to build my mounts for the R with the 450 dimensions. Anyways I think you'll like it, let us know.

interesting. what is the eye-to-eye length of that YFZ rear shock?

The shock In the pic Is 18" long, the lower clevis has been shortened to make It that length. Derrick's frame has already had the sub frame raised, so that give's more room for shock clearance.

are the articulation angles the same, or were adjustments made for the overall length/travel of the new shock?

All the linkage angle's are the same as a 450R, only the shock length and angle has been changed. The Shock builder know's were It's been moved to, so he knows what to change as far as valving, spring rate, shock body length. It will be built to fit our application. I talked to Laz at Gt Thunder about the linkage, and found out what the linkage needed to work correctly with our setup. The overall length of the linkage when the suspension Is completly compressed Is Very Important. Laz was very helpful over the phone, and explained just what I needed to know to make sure the original GT Thunder progression was where It needed to be late In the suspension travel. After talking to Jim at Motowoz, I'm Certain Derrick will be happy with his new suspension.
