I have heard of this on several different threds on this site and other sites like it. I belive it was done by Mickey Dunlap. I have also heard of them taking out reverse and first, but I dont see the point in that, it would just be a four speed, but maybe they hadded 2 more gears above 5th making it a six speed. I would do a google serch for it.

People used to put 350x and 1986 200x engines in the 4 wheelers and a rumor got started that they were just swapping tranny parts and not the whole engines to get the 6 speed.
Why are you interested in a 6 speed ?

Looking to build a drag bike and do not need reverse and all my other 300's just feel like they need another gear on the top end so I thought I would try this. to have on in the play bike. From the looks of it the 350X and the 250X/300Ex look to have the same bottom end cases. so i thought I see what I could do.

to be honest, I have owned 300ex's every since they came out new. I couldn't even start to tell you how many I have built for racing and just riding. I have never heard of putting a 350x tranny in a 300ex. I don't know if it can be done but the big question is, is there any benifit? I don't think it would be. If you need a higher gear then just put a 14 tooth sprocket on the front.

as for swapping the 350x motor out, now that's been done a whole lot......I know I'm gonna get people that want agree with me here but.....I can get more(reliable) power out of 300ex than I can a 350x.

take that 300ex punch it out to .080 and install a 400ex carb with a good pipe. It's cheap and it will really make that thing haul.

If you take first and reverse out you gain a little horespower. They do not have to turn as much weight. I also agree with smr. Bore it out pipe it and do a 400 carb and youll have a pretty fast 300.
