I've always been a fan of the AC with the mudscreen.

I wasn't gonna pick that one but since it's kinda a retro rebuild that is a classic 250r frt bumper. I really like the look of my Rath one on my R. First vote is AC second is the rath

Personally Troy I don't know if I'd put a duncan on a Laeger chassis. When I think of a duncan bumper I think of a Lobo, case and point is the pic you posted. I love that IMS Roll bumper you posted a pic of, and I also really like JMO's CT bumper, it's unique and rare, all good choices in my opinion. The duncan bumpers are my favorite though, so if you do get one I don't blame you. Remember if you plan on racing it the duncan bumper isn't that great for mounting a # plate too. Did Laeger ever make their own bumper/grab bars? I'm guessing no, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't have. Good luck with your choice!

1. Graydon
2. Duncan

If you like PRM Baja, i read where someone custom ordered one without the top bar...

I like this bumper (its not flat across the top, it goes upto a peak). I think there is also another version of this bumper.. i think its a baja bumper that is real rounded at the top.

I am pretty sure the bumper with the peak is a duncan copy, im not sure who makes it... but i like it. I have seen them pop up on feebay every once in a while

The IMS bumper is the exact one i was taking about (i just couldnt find a pic of it). I really like it on the bike posted... but it may not look that great on troy's build.

When i think of an MX bike, i automatically think of a graydon/dg bumper.

Yes Graydon Proline/DG is a true "old school" bumper... pretty much every PRO ran one back in the early 90's, that and also the Duncan... Remember Mark Erhardt's bike?

I've seen a few Graydon's on fleebay in the last couple of years... I thought about picking one up for this build or another. I've always liked them too.

This is a fantastic thread, mostly because it is really useful to me too. I have an 87 build with no bumper yet. IMO

1. Duncan - clean and fast looking, best out there.

2 through 4 would be so close between that IMS Roll, Tag, ans sweet old school CT bumper, ps pdx I have almost pulled the trigger on yours on ebay 3 different times.

Good luck Troy, in the end you will pick what one looks best, i know, even if you buy 3 before finding the right one. :D

what motor builder are you going with? most motor builders use their own bumper with chassis builders they choose such as lobo specific uses IMS but duncan uses the roll chassis with their own duncan bumper, ct run leagers with their own bumper, lrd use leagers chassis with the ac bumpers.just my thoughts but many guys who run specific motor builders run the duncan bumper for looks. owned several brands and always liked the clean and tastefully looking duncan bumper. to many good choices out there.

I will get one for the LTR/LTZ/400/450r and make some 1/4" spacers for the bottom. Its not too big of an issue. The other thing I can do is measure it and build one for the 250r then sell this one off. I've got a builder to make me pretty much anything I want.

Yep its in there. That was what brought me to the idea to come up with a cross compatibility chart. I bought an LTZ bumper for my 250r years ago and learned it only took a couple spacers, in this case washers and it mounted up perfectly. Made me wonder whatelse is out there that we can leverage from other bikes.

You are a master-builder! Just need a tubing bender and a TIG and you're all set to build anything, I can design it! :D

Well at any rate until Pumashine gets a bender I've got another builder, thru a contact via a friend that already builds chassis and aarms etc.. also specializes in Titanium.

...and yes a 450r grabbar will mount up... even the 06+, but you need to cut off the exhaust mount on the newer ones, the 04/05 didn't have that integrated on the grab bar... also only 88/89 style frames.

There was a RTC grab bar on ebay a couple months ago that was every bit as good looking as it was rare. Bidding went over $100. I wanted it bad for my brothers 330 build, but it was for a 89 not a 87 subframe.

Who makes that color powder? And how close in color is it to the stock 86 250r wheels? Or those spindles you have on Elly?

I'm not sure, my powder coater had a sample and I asked about it... Its specifically for a "gold anodized" look, the samples looked like my protaper handle bars which are a brighter gold, not the deeper diarhea looking color... :D

Might ask Pappy and see what he thinks, I'm sure he seen that color before. Its used with either a chrome powder base or right over aluminum to give it a nice luster...

I'm going to try it on my grab bar and see before I hit the bumper with that color. In case I don't like it. I'm telling you the samples looked sweet though, The color was called " gold anodized" I think it was Sherwin Williams powder that usually what my coater uses.

Just thought I would add to the bumper thread, heres the one I chose and the one you were thinking about Troy.I like how it sweeps up and back, really flows with the Fullbore cut and the nerfs! The Rath bumper you chose is also really nice, had one on my YFZ.Are you going to do anything with the center?Carbon #plate?

So many Bumper choices out there.... I have been stockpiling parts to start my Build when I get back home from my current job assignment.

This is what I ended up buying.. The IMS Classic for a Z400... I will also have to use spacers for the bottom mounts, but I liked the look and the custom Inserts... I also bought the Lucky 7 Insert.

I really like the look of this bumper, but I'm wondering how it'll look with a number plate on it. Do you plan on putting a number plate on yours?

They look real good with a # plate. You can find pics of several pros who run it including Dustin Wimmer!

I think my new favorite bumper is the PRM Desert II. Bought one for my race 450R and 700XX a few months ago. Didn't realize they made them for 250R's untill a couple of weeks ago.

Will be picking one up soon.

Does anyone have a photo of a 250r with one of these Pro Armor MX bumpers mounted up? They are supposed to be a little smaller then the avarage bumper.

Im looking for a new bumper, my top two choices are

1. The Pro-Am bumper that socal has..

2. Blingstar Victory

tough choices..

I am looking for something very clean on the smaller side that is lite and does not block air flow to the radiator. Something that is probably shorter then most. I will mod the skid type area if I have to. On the Pro Armor MX that I posted above I think that I could cleanly make those 4 holes on the front one big one. Strength is no big deal on a dune quad and I want to stay away from performance company connected bumpers like the Duncan, Fuel, CT, etc..

Suggestions everyone?

Some of the bumpers that are made for 450r's etc have a mount style that cannot be slotted at the top like needed to make work for us so we just need to think ahead before placing an order.

I am also thinking about one on these with the center plate cut out if I can do it nicely. I can't find a photo of the above mx on a quad anywhere yet.

Something smaller and looks like it belongs there - the stock bumper off an '06 or newer Honda 450R with spacers on the bottom.

A couple years ago StoneConcepts and others were selling new take-offs on ebay for 10 to 15 bucks. I bought a couple and put them on the shelf. Cheap, light, and look nice...

I decided to go with an X-Factor. Just like the IMS ROLL that may have been made by X-Factor for them.

I recieved the X-Factor ltz400 front bumper and it bolted right up without me having to do any additional slotting to the holes. I told Joann that answers the phone what I was doing with it and she gave me 2- 3/8" alum spacers like I told her I was going to have to use for mounting it on my 250r. She was very nice and helpfull. All I had to do was file the spacers down a little and it went right on. Thanks Joann. I will post mounted pics soon.

The z400, LTR450, and Honda 450r are all the same fitment. I've run 450r bumpers, LTR's and Z400 bumpers on 250r. I've also run z400 and LTR bumpers on 450rs... I think 400ex is too, this is all in the cross compatibility thread...

Here is an LTR 450r bumper on my Saber.. Nice and light, weighs ~1lb

Mount shot.
This is thier z400 mx bumper but the mounts are slotted and this same bumper may be sold to fit some others as well. All I did was dial in some spacers a little and I did not have to do any slotting.
I am tempted to see what I could do with the skid area and upper supports with a plasma torch to add more air flow and reduce a little weight. I might just sell this brand new X-Factor for 85.00 shipped to go with somthing smaller for this dune quad if anyone is interested.

Some nice bumpers!Troy, thanks for the sneak peek of the Elsinore!!!Chronic,I would def. go with the Rath, that blingstar IMO does not match the lines of the R,too busy and overwhealming...

X2 on the sneak peak pictures troy!

Socal: I kind of agree, but I've never seen it on a 250 before.. I've got a regular AC right now but I dont like it all that much, sure it's simple, but I want something somewhat 'fancy' haha.. it seems too small for a quad with a 50" front end, imo.

I like your pro-am one too, that's also a top contender for me.

If anyone has a picture of the Victory on a 250r I'd be greatful!
