Hi,I may be buying a Hybrid with a Laegers chassis and the current owner has NO title. He lives in Oregon where he does not need it.Im in California and I would because I will be riding both track and trails/dunes.I havent looked into this yet,are there VIN#s stamped on the frames(both Laegers and Lonestar)?Could I contact these companys and acquire one?Thanks...

Laegers and Lonestar usually have frame number tags. If you can use that, it may suffice, you'd have to look into your dmv to find out if they need OEM numbers.

The easiest thing would be to just buy a frame with a title and transfer the vin from it.

Is that any brand frame?(I have a YFZ frame)Or does it have to be matching?

I live in Cali myself and have hybrids. Ive always just takin a title to an old bike and register that and then just put your sticker on whatever bike your having a hard time with.

I'm in canada, just getting a hybrid laeger myself with no title. The guy I 'm getting it from imported it as a closed track race quad so he didn't need a VIN. I've be told by the DMV and police that you can get a VIN made for it and use that. I'm not getting the quad until jan., and I'll be looking into it more and post a update.

new jersey told me something similar. You have special forms to fill out, along w/ cost, pictures, specs and bill of sale(if you have it). Then they decide what it is worth and put a value on it. You will then be send to a dmv station and a 16 letter/number vin will be stamped on it. I never started the process, I rarely ride my quads and when I do, its on a mx track.

I had the same deal when I bought my hybrid from a guy in Wisconsin. I needed the bill of sale and the invoices from the build which included the serial number on the crf450 crate motor.
The CHP runs the number on the motor to make sure it's not stolen and looks at the build sheet to make sure it is what you say it is and then they rivet a VIN to the frame. Took about an hour but you need to make an appointment with CHP ahead of time and ask for a VIN application on a special construction atv. My Houser had absolutely no markings or numbers of any kind on the frame. Other hybrid makers like Laegers, Lonestar etc...may have numbers on the frame that could be interpreted by CHP as a VIN of some kind.

After that it goes to DMV and hope to god you get a green sticker.

it's been a couple years...honestly I can't remember. It wasn't much. call CHP and ask them.

im curious what the PA process is. if there even is one. im guessing having a title will slightly increase it value too.

When I lived Cali I had the same issue. If you purchased the quad from out of state You do have to follow the proceedures that glamis has mentioned.. But if you have a quad has been registered in cali already (old quad, that you still have registration for) You're golden. I bought a hybrid in Cali (lonestar framed) And I received a 01 400ex title. sent it in and I was golden.. Hope it helps..
