I am running a 16 tooth countershaft right now with my 20's out back, my question is; will I notice a great loss in top speed when I switch from the 20's to 18s? Ive heard that 18" tamers really measure 17, so would that mean that the 20" tamer would really measure more around 19"? I have 20" tamers on my mind. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if your running a 16 tooth with the 18's it would be around stockish type speed...with a stock motor...my friend who races mx had stock gearing and put a 18's on his 400 and it droped the gearing down alot actualy...so 16 front tooth and 18 rears would be a good set up:cool:

Thats what I was thinking, the motor has not been bored, but I do have alot of bolt on mods. Right now with 20" rears and 22" fronts I beat my friends stock 400 with a Pro Circuit by about 5 bike lengths. ( I would like to keep those bike lengths)

i can see where general riding and a 16 tooth 18 inch tire would be desirable. i ran a 14 and 15 tooth with my 18 inchers and loved it. with the 14 tooth i felt it had better responce for jumps and more pull outta turns. i never had too many chances to open it up....but with that combo i didnt lose too many imprompto drag races....lol...ask tommy and norm:devil
