Installing a new vortex basket, the gear from the OEM basket won't even slide onto the new basket. I measured the OD of the hub to be .004" larger than the ID of the gear.

anyone else run into this?

You talking about the splined small gear? Basket in the oven 300 degrees 10-15 min. and small splined gear in freezer overnight. Should slide right in and be really tight when cooled so your basket wont move around.

I'm referring to the large gear with the rubber inserts. The old basket was small enough that the gear could rotate (if you didn't have the rubber things in it). This one is a press fit. I would think I'd want it to be able to rotate, letting the rubber things do their job (versus being bound up by the hub)

hmm. what did the instructions say? That for sure doesn't sound correct to me.

when i replaced my basket, the hinson that was on it, was tight on the gear(couldn't move it when the bolts were tight). the wiseco that i replaced it with had somewhere around .020 gap between the gear and basket which allowed it to move a little. called wiseco about it and they didn't know much other than send it back and they'll look at it. so i then mic'd it against the old hinson and couldn't see any real differences so i just put it on. it's been fine so far.

Instructions just say to "Reinstall the big gear using the stock cushions." If I take out the rubber cushions the gear drops over the old basket and freely rotates. on the new basket the gear won't slide over the hub. I could put it on with a press or sand the gear a little. I'll take a picture of it at work tomorrow

I did a lot of sanding to the big gear, and if I push down on it I can get it as far as on the photo

it must have been machined wrong. send it back or remachine/have someone do it. shouldn't be that tight!

in that case i'd have a reputable machinist have a look see at it. shouldnt take much to fix the interference.

Should i have him take it off the gear or the basket?

I was thinking that but there's a finish on the basket, not sure if removing it would cause it to wear through more. I tried sanding the basket at the beginning but I couldn't get through the annodizing or whatever it is

ya, it's a hard coating, will have to be machined
