Have a recently purchased 250R three wheeler. When I start it up, it runs about 2-3 seconds and dies. I automatically thought it was the carb-took it apart, is clean as a whistle and the tank petcock is not clogged either. Never had an ignition problem act this way but I am going in that direction. Any help/information would be much appreciated.....

pull off your stator cover, check the magnetic pick up and see if it is rusty or bulged out. (it should be pretty much square) i had a bad stator and mine did the same- feels like its running out of fuel

I had the same thing happen when the cdi/coil went bad.......let us know if that fixes it.

Just for the heck of it, take the gas cap off and try to run it, it may be clogged and choking for air!

Why don't you take the plug out, insert it back into the plug wire, and kick it over a few times to see if it makes spark after it dies? A word of caution, though, sometimes if you have an ignition problem you will still get a spark, only it will be weak and not enough to keep the engine running.

Good luck...

Thanks everybody for your tips. Pilot-You hit it right on the head. Took the Stator cover off, everthing rusty and oxidized. Cleaned everything up and bump started the thing. Success!

Thanks guys.

lol...glad you are running, and glad my two weeks of misery figuring that out, and towing it out of the woods helped somebody!!
