ive used tusk for a few years with no issues at all. I have the hd springs also and it seems to be a good combo for the price. steve

OEM is the way to go as far as longevity...
Have you considered upgrading to an 8 plate clutch setup? You get a longer lasting clutch, plus much more holding power over stock on top of that.
The Sparks racing 8 plate kit for the 400EX is hard to beat for 140 bucks: http://www.alwaysopenmall.com/layouts/02/unsecure/item.asp?SiteID=223&DepartmentID=85&CategoryID=949&GroupID=7034&ItemID=36574&StartNum=1&Sort=&ShowPics=0&ListByCode=1&Brand=&GenderAgeGroupID=0&MaxPrice=&SearchString=&ItemCode=&IsOnlyOnSale=0&FromHomePage=0&FromFamily=0&ProductFamilyID=0&RelatedItemID=0

never mind i read the description, stock basket works, but i wonder is it changes the feel of the clutch lever? does more plates mean the travel required to release tension is more or less? or am i thinkning about it to hard?

Thinking about it too hard :p
Everything feels the same. Keep in mind a slightly heavier pull comes with heavier springs if you decide to use the HD springs over your stockers.

This is true... lol But a harder pull equals a stronger hand. lol

When i first read this thread name i thought hmmm... my favorite flavor of clutch... Well after much thinking i decided that strawberry would be an excellent flavor... or terriyaki.... jalepeno wouldn't be bad either...

gt thunder has an 8 plate kit but comes with a "machined" pressure plate to allow for the extra plate.........does this mean the sparks kit is missing a piece and i would have to get mine machined to work?

No, the Sparks kit uses thinner plates so no other modifications needed. I suspect them to be either 250R plates or 300EX plates.
The Hinson 8 plate setup I run uses 250R plates for example.
The GT Thunder kit uses the stock 400EX plates which are thicker, so the pressure plate must be machined in order to fit the extra plates.

has any one used the barnett clutch basket? it looks like a good setup, having the steel liners to prevent wear and all.

well guys ive had my ex for about 5 years now and its a 2000, im not positive if the owner i originally bought it from ever changed the plates and if he did there still oem, but ive been racing for the past 4 years and ive never seemed to have a problem with my clutch slipping at all, maybe once and a while if im digging a burm and i purposely slip it real quick to bring the revvs up but its barely noticeable, i was thinking about replacing the plates basket, pressure plate and springs but just never got around to it because it was never severe enough for me to have to go out and dump a few hundred into one
