Since there seem to be a lot of these threads appearing.... I figured I'd start one for those of us who also ride on two-wheels off road. Dual sports are allowed too!

Here's my 2001 CR125:

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o116/kucan14/Dirtbikes/IMG_2252.jpg
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o116/kucan14/Dirtbikes/IMG_2333.jpg

Bought it knowing I would be doing work over it this winter. Going to throw in a new piston/ring and gaskets. Came with an FMF silencer, other than that it was all stock. Currently has a head gasket leak:

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o116/kucan14/Dirtbikes/IMG_2386.jpg

Haven't got the cylinder off yet, so who knows what other surprises await!

So far have ordered these parts (some new, some used):Renthal Chain & sprockets, OEM front sprocket guard, V-Force Delta reed cage, ProTaper CR Mid bend Contour bars, ProTaper Fat Bar clamps, N-Style graphics/seat cover, FMF re-pack for the Turbinecore that was included, PC Racing plastic renew kit, exhaust flange gasket, IMS pro series pegs, and an IMS shifter.

Have pics of most of the aftermarket parts if anyone is interested.... here's just the rad shrouds:

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o116/kucan14/Dirtbikes/IMG_2406.jpg

Gonna order a Pro Taper bar pad, pillowtop grips, a Wiseco piston, and a top end gasket kit.

Also picked up a 2000 Honda CR125 for cheap, it's gonna be my Summer of 2011 project. Motor needs a bottom end rebuild (probably a new piston too), and there are some other smaller issues with the bike.

It came with gold Excel wheels, a Bill's pipe, and a Pro Circuit pipe (will throw one of them on the '01).

+a lot.

Both definitely have their pros/cons, and both are definitely fun. I won't say that one is more fun than the other.... I guess it just depends on where you're riding and who you're with.

Bikes are definitely cheaper to buy and maintain though.

I have owned both and I am much much more comfortable on a quad. It might be that i didn't give myself enough time to get comfortable on the bike but I went back to 4 wheels. It probably didn't help that my first dirtbike was a 03 cr250 either.

Brauap
12-14-2010, 09:26 AM
You just need to give it a bit of time.. my first bike (I was 12) was a 2000 YZ125.. then I sold that and with the money I rebuilt my 400EX, to sell it. With that money I bought a POS 1986 XT350 only to put $3000 into and sell it for $900 a year later- then I bought a 2001 XR250R, and traded that for my RM I have now.

Bikes are just so much more capible of doing everything.. I'm sorry guys but comming from a long time quad rider- bikes are where it is at.

Ruby Soho
12-14-2010, 09:31 AM
i've had both as well, im equally comfortable on both, but quads are way to expensive for me.

Brauap
12-14-2010, 11:02 AM
Thats another great point!

On a dirtbike you don't have to worry about bending a arms, tie rods, steering colum, axle, etc when rolling down a hill.. you don't make a hill on a bike you simply lay it over, turn it around and ride right back down.. a bad quad roll can cost you HUNDREDS! Really all you have to worry about on a bike is the levers or handlebars breaking or bending.. which is less common on a bike vs. a quad

Ruby Soho
12-14-2010, 02:25 PM
they also come race ready out of the box. no need for thousands of suspension upgrades, engine mods etc..

however i still love building my ride. thats why i do pitbikes.

Blaine, I actually won a certificate from the chinese auction at the local mx series awards banquet for a free fork and shock revalve from pro action so that is my reason for getting it. It was the best 20 dollars on tickets I have ever spent! I am really looking forward to it. It expires the 30th of june so I am going to get more use out of the stock suspension until then being that it only has 15 hours on the whole bike. Making the switch to a dirt bike was a great decision. I am trying to sell as many parts off of my race quad as I can but still keep it ridable.

Thanks guys. I was a little skeptical buying a husky in the beginning (didn't know how they would hold up) but could not be more then 100% satisfied with my purchase and the fact that its street legal makes it so amazing. I miss my quad a ton but definitely don't miss looking behind my shoulder on the roads. Thanks again!

Just out of curiosity, what's parts availability like for Huskys? Obviously I don't expect it to be like any of the Japanese bikes, but is it similar to the KTM you have?

Drewltr450
01-13-2011, 06:39 PM
OEM parts are a pain to come by if you don't have a dealer near you. I don't know of an online oem parts site. My dealer can usually get me parts within a week or so if not backordered. But since husqvarna was bought up by BMW this year they were going through a transition stage and service was very poor. But from what i have heard (haven't needed any oem parts in a while) parts availability is increasing and delivery time is getting better as well. I know that BMW put a stop work order on all oem parts i think older then 98 or some year close to that. I can get KTM parts much faster then husky parts but its mostly because my dealer usually stocks alot of ktm parts.

When it comes to aftermarket its slim pickings but manageable. Not a ton of companies make aftermarket parts but it seems to be increasing now that Husky/BMW came out with the new re-designed 2011's and husky is being recognized as a much more reputable brand.
