I know this is a long shot, but I am desperate. We are camping at Rasor rd. OHV, just south of Baker Ca. Our Brittany spaniel "Brandy" wandered out of camp last night, and has not been seen since. We were about 6 or 7 miles in on Rasor rd, from the I-15 frwy.
I am currently at the Shell gas station at the frwy offramp.
Terry (station owner), and Keith (Rasor ranch), are aware of the situation.

if anyone is in the area, or can help get the word out, I would really appreciate it.
our cells are 714-225-7346 or 714-496 0663
thanks,
Ron and Suzanne

Thanks Pappy,
my kids are taking it pretty hard rigt now.
Would you mind sticking this for a couple of days please ?

Suzanne and Cameron are out on their quads about 10 miles in looking for her one last time before it gets dark.
No reception/signal back there.
We are 150 miles from home.

I am sitting at the freeway offramp in the camper with Nickolas, posting on every board I can think of.
He dosen't ride well enough or fast enough to chance taking him back there.
So here I sit feeling helpless.
I'm not doing too good right now.

tri5ron
11-28-2010, 03:34 PM
she has tags with cell numbers.
but no cell signal back that far in the desert mountains.
that's why I'm up here at the offramp, so I can monitor cell phone with signal, and post on every board I am a member of.

thanks for any well wishes or help.
Ron

Ron, I have no issue making it a sticky, but ive found that the stickys in the open forum get less attention then not being stickied. I will keep it to the top no worries.

The tags will help a ton. I was 100 miles from my dog as well, no tags. Last time I ever went anywhere with out the contact info on the dogs.....luckily I found him the next morning.

Being a spaniel, someone who comes across it will pick it up and report it to the local shelters. Make sure someone stays close to where you camped.....

if the dog as any sence of direction or knows how to use its nose then what i would do if you have to leave the area is to lay a jacket on the ground where you was at the dog will return to the jacket and stay there because it will have yalls scent on it. ive seen it done time and time again with hunting dogs.

if the dogs get lost and cant be found what we would do is just leave the owners jacket on the ground and the dog will return to the jacket and stay there with it

are thoughts and best wishes are with you and your family.

I accidentially left the gate open in my backyard a few months ago and let the dogs out. One of them was missing when I went to let them back in and my heart hit the floor. I have never been so freaked out. Thankfully he came walking up the driveway minutes afterwards.

Post signs with a pic in the area. Keep calling all the shelters in the area and post adds on all the boards and Craigslist.

Was he chipped?

Hello all,
I just wanted to say thank you to al who helped and showed support and concen for my family in this difficult time.
I also felt that I should give you all an update on how this has played out.

Unfortunately, we have not found our dog Brandy.

She wandered away from our camp on saturday night.
many of our group spent hours searching for her that night, canvassing large area's with our atv's, and SxS's.
The following morning we continued our search the entire day.
Being that it was the end of the weekend, naturally, many in the group had to return home to their regular routines. Perfectly understandable.

They all DID however, put forth an incredible effort to spread the word for us on as broad a spectrum as possible, by posting the info on every possible forum and chat, that could maybe assist, or at least be aware .
My gratitude for this is undescribeable, and I thank all of them very much.

My family and I stayed Sunday night to continue our search through Monday to no avail. With the kids already missing one day of school, and my wifes job, I took my family back home on Monday night, dropped them off, and immediately returned to the area we had camped. It's 150 miles each way, and 7 miles out into the desert, will no cell phone service in the area, so communications were very difficult.

Wednesday night, I felt that there was nothing more I could do, and needed to return to my family.
As I was traveling the 7 mile dirt road back to the highway, I noticed that someone had added a picture of our dog to the "Lost dog" flyer we had posted on the Kiosk leading into the camping area.
I thought it had been posted by the gas station owner at the highway offramp, so I felt it only proper, to stop and thank him for the kind gesture. I had not originally intended to even stop at the gas station.

When I spoke with the owner to thank him, He told me that it was not him who had added the dogs picture, but rather it had been my wife who had returned, and had passed through his station 30 minutes prior.
He told me, that she said she could not stay home, and had returned to continue looking for the dog in a broader area, than had already been covered.

Naturally, I could not very well just get on the freeway to return home, knowing that my wife had gone back out into the desert alone, to look for our dog.
I offloaded my atv, and raced back to the area that he had described where she intended to search.
When I found her, she was very emotionally distraught, (as was I, too), and it was obvious that she intended to continue.
She wanted to stay another night and day to keep trying, so that is what we did.
We searched larger and larger area's all day, and at one point had heard of a possible sighting of our dog, but that did not pan out.

We left the area to return home, late Thursday, without our beloved dog, and got back home very late last night, and many tears have been shed over this entire unfortunate event.
We love our dogs as members of our family, and leaving that desert without our dog, was certainly one of the most difficult and painful things we had to do.

I apoligize for this late responce, but felt it only courteous for me to give you all the update.
Thank you ALL, who tried to help in any and every way that you could.
I'll never forget that, and I know I have some truly great new friends.

Time will eventually pass, and we will get beyond this.
But for now, it is very painful to be missing one of my best friends, "Brandy".

I wish she could have come home.

I would put an ad up on Craigslist in all CA / NV / AZ cities anywhere even remotely close to where you were, or perhaps where someone driving along the highway would stop to pick up a dog. I actually scanned a bunch of Craiglist "found" ads for you (pretty slow day at work - lol) and didn't see anything, but it's something to scan on a daily basis. Lots of good Samaritans out there, and that's a pretty dog. Someone's going to know that dog is a pet.....

Also, I would call the BLM offices / Game and Fish / Sherrif's depts all within 100 mile radius of where you were, and let them know she's out there, and send them pictures.

Dogs are amazing creatures..... you never know what she can go through, or in what ways she can make it back to you. Don't give up hope......!! :)

Hey all, Thanks for all the well wishes and bumps.
Unfortunately we have not found Brandy.
there has been a couple of weak leads that we have followed up on, that have not panned out.

While following up on one of the leads, there was a situation that has caused us to suspect that a certain group of campers may have taken her. We do not know if THEY know we are looking for her, but it is kind of hard to belive that they wouldn't know, given the massive coverage we have produced in trying to find her.

I can't say for certain that she was intentionally taken, and not returned, but the possibility is there.
I am currently trying to aquire some contact info. for this particular group.

I wish I had better news to report.

yes there are coyotes in the area, not alot, but they are around some.

I realize that is probably what happened to her, but for the 3 days that I was out there with nobody else for miles, I didn't see or even hear a single one, day or night.
If they WERE to howl during the night,.you could/should be able to hear it from miles away.
I say this, because when I would call out Brandy's name, I could hear my own voice echo 3 to 4 times. So if a coyote was to make a sound at night, it would carry for miles.

I saw very few Canine tracks, and no scat.
mostly saw Jackrabbit,Kit fox, rodents, etc., occaisionally would see a sidewinders track, but very few and far between.

i highly doubt a coyota got your dog, but thats just my opinion. Here in PA, coyotes are more scared of domesticated animals than anything, and in some places, people run coyotes with dogs, so i would think they'd be somewhat leery of one...

You dont know yotes to well...out west, they use house dogs to draw in yotes as they will attack a dog in thier area. And the yotes here will eat dogs in a heart beat.....cats to. There are several reported dog attacks and deaths form yotes in PA as well.

What a shame that the dog hasn't been found. :( Hunter has been gone for 2 days with my parents and I miss him ... I couldn't imagine him being taken or lost.

I say keep returning to the area on busy weekends and keep an eye out. Most likely if someone took the dog , they'll return to that same riding area on another weekend to do more riding since they know the area. Bring a picture and start questioning anyone around on the weekend. Someone will have seen or known where the dog is.. I'll guarantee that.

Coyotes out here in the desert are actually pretty smart about preying on domestic animals. They have been known to actually lure dogs out into the desert where the rest of the pack waits for them. I have lost several cats to Coyotes, and small dogs are always game. A larger dog like this one, however.....I think someone picked her up, too. Maybe some good Samaritan found her and just doesn't ever get on the internet......

OK Everyone,
get youself something to drink,...
sit down and relax,...
and get ready for a VERY LLllooooooonnGG read,...

First I want to say from the bottom of my heart, a HUGE THANK YOU, to EVERYONE who has hoped for the best outcome for my dog Brandy, and all the well wishes and continued support in this incredibly emotional journey for both myself and my family.
Your constant reminders to me to hold on to hope and to never give up, provided me with the strength and faith that I could never give up, and that I HAD to keep beliving in the chance that miracles sometimes do happen.
There is simply NO POSSIBLE WAY for me to describe the emotional rollercoaster that this saga has been for my entire family, as well as many of my dear friends.
It is in times like these, that a man finds out who his real friends are, and how good people, even those who you have never met, will go out of there way to help you when you really need it the most. EVERYONE has been fantastic in helping in any way they could, and I will be proud to share a campfire with anyone of you, if we ever have that chance to meet, camp, ride, and share a good trip together. You are ALL welcome to join my family and myself in our camp anytime, and the cold beers, and hot BBQ is on me!

For the last few weeks, This Christmas season was looking pretty dim for us, and many tears have been shed, dollars have been spent, work and school has been missed, and deep sorrow has prevailed over this whole ordeal.

Well I am finally very Happy, Proud, and Incredably Relived to announce that IT IS OVER, and is ALL BEHIND US NOW !
Santa Clause has come early this year for us, and we will be shareing our Christmas as a complete Family, including our "Furry kids" too.

As many of you already know, We recieved a phone call yesterday from a lady who said she had found our dog Brandy.
Many of you have asked for all the details of how, where, what, and when this all came about, and how it all went down. So with that, I tink it is only right for me to give you what you've asked for, so here's how it played out....

The weather here has been miserable for the last 4 days straight with constant rain and wind. I have not been working my concrete business due to the weather, and was going pretty stir-crazy trying to keep my mind off of brandy being gone, and trying to salage some degree of holiday spirit for the sake of my young kids and my wife. But admittedly, it's not been very easy to fake a "good mood" with all that's been going on.

A buddy of mine had asked me to try to do some repairs to one of his dirtbikes, that his friend had crashed and bent the tail end pretty good. (when all he was really trying to do, was to just get my mind off of all the bummer stuff.

I was in the garage working on the bike, had it halfway tore apart, and was figuring the extent of the damage to the subframe, and forming a plan on how to approach the repairs. it was almost a toss-up between straightening the subframe, or just tear it all the ay down and startover with a new frame.
I was on the phone with him discussing the various options, my phone battery was already beeping for low battery, and I was about to drop the call.
during this time while talking to him, my wife had sent me a urgent voicemail. It was about 4:15 pm, and the rain was pouring down hard.

I had to go plug in the charger just to get the voicemail, and all the while I was just figureing it was probably going to be some bad news reguarding my very ill grandmother who lives 25 miles away. Not that this is something I am hoping for, but the reality is she is 91 years old, and is fully incapcitated to function independantly, requiring full time assistance and care.
Once the phone charged enough to retreive my wifes voicemail, The only thing she had said was “EMERGENCY !, Get off the phone and call me, it is URGENT !”
Great,…. This is all I really need to hear right now!
I immediately returned her call, and her voice was near frantic, and could hardly speak. She was practically yelling at me, and said ”I just received a call from a lady in Baker CA.”
(Baker is about 15-20 miles beyond where we were camping when brandy was lost weeks before)
My wife continued on to say,
“Her name is Renee, her phone is xxx-xxxx, and you need to call her immediately”, “She says she has Brandy”.
I tried to get some more info. From her, an address, her last name, where she was in Baker, ANYTHING! But my wife was basically frantic in tears, at her work, and could only say that was all the info. She knew, and for me to call Renee immediately, which I did.
Renee told me that she worked at the post office in Baker, and had recently lost HER dog, that closely resembled my Brandy dogs description. One of the mail carriers, postman, had spotted the dog from a distance while he was delivering his mail route, and had known about Renee’s missing dog.
He called into Renee to report the sighting, and she told him to stay there and keep her in sight. Renee then phoned her son, and told him to go meet up with the postman to help catch the dog. Once her son arrived at the location, they tried to catch the dog, but she was scared, dirty, skinny, running, and trying to escape the area. It apparently took them some time to corral and restrain the dog, at which point they realized it was not Renee’s dog.
But they DID realize that this was still a lost dog, had a collar with tags, and someone was probably looking for her. They brought the dog to Renee at the postoffice, dried her of, calmed her down, gave her some water and food, and was able to get the info. on the I.D. tags.
It was at this point that Renee thought she may recognize this dog from a photo she had seen at the Baker Animal shelter, that my Wife had sent to them the previous week, when we were looking for Brandy. She called the shelter to verify what she had suspected, and sure enough, she was able to identify this animal as our dog Brandy. That is when she immediately called my wife to tell her the news, and my wife immediately called me.
I just about came completely unglued with disbelife and emotion, and honestly started to lose it.
Baker is about 165 miles away, over two mountain passes, in near horrific driving conditions of rain, wind, sleet, snow, traffic, flooding, sig-alerts all along the way, with reports of the highway Patrol having to providenescorts up the worst part of re two large grades.
I’m home alone, my wife is 25 miles away at work, the kids are in daycare, the truck is out of fuel, there is a virtual river flowing down my driveway into the street, and the sun is going down in about 20 more minutes.
None of that matters to me, and I start throwing dogfood, blankets, water, gps, phone charger, wallet, raincoat, tire chains, hat, and road drinks into the truck.
Just as I was getting into the truck to head out into this god-awful weather to drie 165 miles of flooded icy roads,.. my good buddy Phil calls, realizes I’m a freakin emotional trainwreck, and says he will go with me, on this moments notice, and to stop by his place to pick him up. He dosen’t want me to go alone with the road onditions being what they are.
(once again, I say, it’s times like this when you find out who a real friend is).
Whtin minutes I’m at Phils house, and we hit the road. Traffic was bad, road conditions were dangerous, and 4 eyes on the road , were better than two.
About 3 hours later we arrive in Baker, stop at the vallero fuel station Renee told us to, calle her phone.
I Told her we were in a white Suburban, and would wait for her there.
We park under the canopy at the station, get out to stretch our legs, an get Brandy’s blanket spread out in the rear seat.
As I had my head stuck in the rear door of the Sub,… phil looks up to realize, that out of the total of 8 vehicles at the station,…there is litterly 6 other white suburbans getting fuel at the same time ! go figure the odds on THAT crap !
Moments later, a pickup truck pulls up looking all around at all the white Suburbans, and obviously a bit confused! He quickly figured out which one we were, and pulled up next to us.
Renee got out of the truck with Brandy in her arms, and she immediately saw that Brandy recognized me and just wanted to come to Daddy’s waiting arms.
I am SO thankful for this family of people who took the time in their own time of need and sorrow, to go above and beyond the call of duty, to restore my families Christmas joy, inspite of not even finding her own beloved pet.
The lady is incredible in heart, mind, soul, and selflessness, and I can only hope that her good nature and generous personality will be returned to her by some kind person, who can also save her christmas too.
I Had tried to insist that she/they accept a offering of a reward for finding and returning Brandy to us, and doing more to make this the best christmas ever for myself and my family,
but they were not having any part of it., I even tried to sneek a hundred dollar bill into their truck when I thought they were distrated by Phil and Brandy,… but they caught me, and for a moment there, I thought the big guy was going to threaten me if I was to try a second attempt to et the reward into their truck.
These are TRULY genuinely Good People, and I can only hope that they get as lucky as me, and Santa Clause looks as kindly on them as he has for me and my family.
On the roadtrip home, Phil drove, while held Brandy in my lap, and tried to start getting the word out to this, as well as the many forums, and hundreds of people who have helped us to find our special little girl. My email inbox has been going crazy like a out of control wild fire.
Thank you so much Renee and family for your selfless kindness, and hope that you will come out to share a campfire with my family and friends the next time we go riding out a Rasor rd.
Merry Christmas, God bless, and best wishes to you and your families.
Ron Stephen and family.
