I'm looking to upgrade my 05 450R engine and looking to get a high comp piston and maybe a cam for now but over the winter I plan on getting the head done. Should I wait on the piston and cam or should I just go ahead and do the piston and cam now? What other things should I do. I still want it to be reliable too so don't want to go to crazy.

figure out who is going to do your head work then talk to them about a piston and cam that will work best with the porting work they plan to do.

Piston and cam (early HRC), and dyna or vortex ignition are by far the best improvements-head on 04-05 is good stock!

On my practice bikes i have Dee and Rage atv do a rec. port job on my head put a 12:1 comp piston in and a 02 crf dirtbike cam in. make good reliable power and wont break the bank.

What Roostar said; a good port job, I run the 02 crf cam which is great, 12:1 is good, get that air box open and that's a pretty solid setup

i did cp 12:1 piston with hot cam stage 2 open air box.. jet and hmf love the setup

i did a je 13:8:1 piston with a sparks mx cam and p&p work, it was a totally different ride and way worth the money
