i recently purchased a 2006 450r and the guy said it had a HRC kit installed and gave me the manual with the installation date. It looks like its the stock header and i just wanted to know if there is any way to know for sure whether or not the HRC kit is installed on it.
The HRC airbox lid has a hole in the back, and kind of curves down toward the filter. The stock lid is closed, except for a tube.

well he said he just removed the stock air lid to get more air to it
If it still has the stock exhaust, the stock end cap's opening will be about the size of quarter. The HRC endcap's opening will be quite a bit bigger.

ive got an hmf slip on, the header on mine has the heat shield, does the hrc header have one?
That's what I'm not sure of. I don't think it does. The only other thing I can think of that would be visible is a white plastic reservoir-type thing that attaches to the airbox. Sitting on the quad, it's on the left side. The HRC has a flat piece of plastic that blocks off the hole that the reservoir connects to. (It's not a reservoir, but that's the best word I can think of to describe it.) You may have to unhook the rear plastic under the seat to see it.

You're confusing 04-05 with 06 and newer. 06 and newer kits don't come with a airbox lid. You just take off the stock one. The exhaust end cap doesn't get changed like the 04-05 either, just the insert gets removed, original endcap stays on. The 06-newer kit does come with a difuser to reduce noise and make it AMA legal.

The HRC header uses the stock heat cheild... Pull the valve cover off and look at the Cam. That's the tell tale sign..

But that really doesn't prove if there's an HRC kit. Anybody can remove the lid and buy a main jet at the dealer.

yea. but if it isn't then you just saved your self takeing off the valve cover. also the needle is almost impossible to get outside of the hrc kit

Not impossible or even difficult. All you need is the part number, and a call to service honda, or the dealership.
I bought and installed the hrc jet kit with the needle, leak, and main jets about 8 months before I went ahead and bought the full hrc kit.
All the components of the hrc kit are available individually.

measure the diameter of the header on it then post it on here and you'll know soon enough
