How To Change Your Oil On Your YFZ

Maintenance for Yamaha YFZ 450

1.Change Oil and Oil Filter every 20-25 Hours

2. Start Your Quad and let it Warm up and then Turn it off

3.Take off Skid Plate

4.Put a Pan down to Catch the oil

5.Loosen Two Bolts one under the engine case and the other at the bottom of the Oil Tank

6.Wait for every drop of oil to drip from the tank and case, Then install the two bolts that were Removed

7.Remove the Oil Filter Cover and Oil Filter

8.Oil Filter is on right side of the Motor 3 Allen key Bolts hold it on

9.Oil Filter Scotts Performance Stainless Steal Reusable Oil Filter. (Better than the $15 Yami Plastic Filter) . it Might cost a little more at First but u will be Glad you bought it.http://www.scottsperformance.com/products.php?PartType=3&Bike=Yamaha

10.put a little bit of oil on the new filter Seal before you put it back on

11.Reinstall the New Oil Filter and oil filter cover

12. Now to Pour the new oil in

13.Oil to use Amsoil MCF 10W-40 (Best Choice)http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mcf.aspx

14.Put like 1/2 Quart in crankcase & 1.5qt in oil Tank

15. Reinstall the Skid Plate and Check the oil Level

16.Start up the Bike and Listen and Watch for any Leaks

17. IF theres no leaks yours all Set!

18. To Clean the Scotts Performance Stainless Steal Reusable Oil Filter. Take it out and Wash it with hot Soapy Water and let it Dry for a Few Hours

those are the proper steps. i disagree on filter and oil type though. but its all person preference.

thats what my buddy recommended he use to race. but what do u use? i like the filter because u can reuse it

Only oem filters for me. I have a hard time believing a reusable filter will filter as fine of matrerial as a oem filter. I dont go nearly as many hours either. I race XC though and it can be extremely dusty so my oil get changed after every race. My other quads and my Rhino that dont get beaten so hard probably do go close to 20 hrs. between oil changes.

We use Maxima ATV specific 10w-40. used it in both my quads, when we tore down my old motor that had 150 hours on it, it was like new. the filter, i cant remember the name but it comes in a green box, basically a OE replacement though.


20 hours is fine. my buddy has a KTM that has over 300 hours on it, oil changed every 20 hours, and his motor is like new every time he tears it down.

Most good paper filters will pass particles in the 90 to 95 micron range, and some tested, as much as 300 microns. Sand is about 125 microns and a white blood cell approximately 25 microns. Scotts stainless filter catches items down to 35 microns "absolute", which is about 3 times better than most good paper or brass filters. and the Filter is Reusable
