Ok I just got off the phone with the local honda dealer. They quoted me 8 hours to split the cases and install the crank then put the cases back together. I have the cylinder, cylinder head, starter, sprocket and kicker removed already and will be putting these parts back on myself.

Is 8 hours to long to do this ? Its a 2008 trx450er.

That sounds about right, if the motor is out of the bike to begin with. If anything, I say that would be a little fast. I guess I'm just the type that would rather have someone take their time and do it right the first time, rather than someone rushing through and making a mistake.

That's way to long. Maybe 4 or 5 with putting the head back on an doing a valve adjustment. I did a crank in one of my 05 motors in just over 2 hours and that was all hand tools and torqued. That's just r/r crank and inspect trans and clay the valves becaue I run a 14:1 and a .070 cut head.
So they are talking $600 + parts at list WOW !!!!!!!

I kinda thought it is to long, the motor is even almost ready to split the cases.
They want $95 an hour for shop time. $760 for labour plus parts.

thats way too much, that labor rate is pretty steep even for a dealership and it doesnt take anywhere near 8 hrs to do a motor. ive torn apart a complete motor, disassembled the head and put new springs in, put everything back together and adjusted the valves in probably about 3-4 taking my time with no power tools except for disassembly purposes

That is expected from a stealership. Get a friend that can turn some wrenches. You can do it yourself, with patience, a camera and common sense.

If you don't trust the dealer and he charge you $95/hre for labor , put your motor in a box and ship me that by mail post.
i charge $45/hre and i'm doing that all week long.
you will save near to $450.00 just in the labor.

give me a news,

Arsene

Well I decided to phone back the dealership. It was a misunderstanding of what was needed to be done. They re-quoted me 2 to 4 hours. They thought I need the complete motor to be put back together and put back in the quad.

Im thinking of either getting a honda stock replacement crank and bearings or a heavy duty hot rods crank and bearings. Does anyone have any input on this ?

I personally like the oem bearings as far as the crank they are both factory balanced, but it wouldn't hurt to have the new one balanced by a qualified tech, if you have it balanced both oem or hotrods would be fine
