Lubricating your shocks

After a lot of reading I haven't come up with much info on lubricating your shocks. The only thing I read is to spray some WD-40 on the bushings. Is this really what you want to do? Seems like I should be using some kind of grease.

have to look out with grease tends to attract and hold sand and grit causing more harm than good in some instances.

Or do they not need it at all? I never would have thought to add lube if it wasn't mentioned in the 450r how-to

technically they are "greaseless" bearings and would require no maintenance at all but i like to do the coat of wd-40 when i do the rest of the stuff. I even do inside the covers for the shocks so they dont squeak. I do pretty much every part that will move with wd and can tell when i do it cause it is much easier to move stuff. I especially like to do the steering stem bearings since they can get stiff after a while. steve

I'm with honda400ex2003, I make sure to hit everything with WD40 after washing. Joints, pivots, bushings, swing arm, etc... I ride mostly in sand. Grease or other sticky lubrication tends to attract sand where WD40 doesn't.

wd-40 will dry out your bushings.I would find something else to use.

maxima chain lube would work out pretty well too. I have been using that the past couple of times i oiled everything. steve

I use never seize by permatex for many things like lubing my a-arm bushings, spring bushings on trucks, etc. It doesnt wear off easy and works well.

If it squeaks, lube it.
If not, I'd leave 'em alone.

ive been using wd40 on my stuff for 7 years now with no issues either. steve
