03' Z400, starting issues?

My cousin has an 03' Z400 that has some starting issues. No matter if it is cold or hot, the Z won't start using the starter. He can roll start it and it fires up everytime, somewhat easily. But, you can crank it all day with the starter and it won't start.

I've only been with him out riding and saw it do this. I personally haven't had time to look at it.

We never got anything done with it since the last time he took it riding and he's taking it up to the mountains with us this upcoming weekend. Maybe we can try to get it figured out!!!

Anyone heard of issues like this? Or, ideas/suggestions?

will it start if he pumps it off a car?
is the battery any good?

Think there was a forum somewhere just like this? but i cant remember what the solution was try looking for it if you find the time

No, I mean it will start if he puts it in gear, rolls it along, and pops the clutch. It will fire right up, everytime, for a whole weekend this way.

But, if you shut it off and then try to restart with the start button, it will just crank and crank, but won't start.

It doesn't matter whether the engine is cold or hot, it will only "roll start".
