Chosing the right Video Camera

I have a freind who is starting to vidoe Diesel Events that is wanting to buy a good video camera for under 2G's . I have no clue about video cameras, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some good helpful suggestions who has some personal knowledge ??

Hes also looking for good editing program , dvd copy machines ect ....

Any suggestions and please answer why you suggest ? Thank you for your help !:)

i had the canon gl2 for bmx and stuff. it worked pretty good until it got stolen:(

We use Canon GL2's at school, and they are alright. probably would not buy it for my person use though. about all i got to offer, lol.
