Yesterday I clipped the end of a log with my front left tire of my '05 400ex. I am now having a grind/crutch noise and a feeling like it is popping as it is turned or rotated. Could it be a steering shaft bearing? The ball joints look and feel fine and I don't see excessive play.

how do the tie rods and tie rod ends look?

they all look good. Don't feel any play. It is not a rattle, but a grinding sensation.

Your steering stem could be bent....

I will have to figure out a way to prove that it is or isn't. Any ideas on how to check with it still on the bike? I didn't roll the quad or anything.

ok. grinding is synonimus with a blown bearing.

Thanks, I order a new steering stem bearing off of e-bay.

I also noticed a lot of play on the rear bearing of the left upper control arm. I also ordered a replacement to resolve this issue.
