what are some of the best and worst tires you guys have ran?

holeshots worst but they were pretty bald anyway.

i like the razrs the best

im quite opinionated on the subject though lol. I wont buy anything but razrs after using my set for years and still having more tread than my stockers ever did lol steve

Im very happy with my kenda klaw XC's, flip them one way they are good for harder ground, flip them the other way you can use them in sand very good.

i dont know the exact name of them, but if you find the dunlops that have like a really choppy kind of diagonal tread...like parallelogram shaped knobs they hook up freakin great!

plus i got them on ebay for $80 shipped brand new

i havent seen any lately, but if you ever see something like these, get them haha

hopefull someone will chime in

....also i like the standard razrs as well as holeshots, however i agree holeshots wear out a little faster

both hook up great though

i havent been able to get kenda klaws to hook up climbing hills and things, they seemed to fail when other tires worked better, but i couldve had them on the wrong way or something---other than the failure at hill climbing they seem ok

and also turf tamers have worked out well, especially at $80 a pair! you just need to cut knobs off in a nice looking pattern (pick another popular tire and mimick pattern)

The stock 400ex tires are probably still my favorite. Too bad they are pretty expensive

maxxis razor II's, alittle heavy but they last forever and the hook up is great. worst tire-stock tires

I had good luck with kenda scorpions on my blaster and now on the 400ex I'm lookin into a set of kenda klaws, they look decent and I should be picking them up tomorrow off of a guy from craigslist. Or if you can find realtors you've got it made. As far as bad ones I didn't really like the turf tamers but that was no big loss I got them for free when I bought the quad so you gotta take the bad with the good or free in my case lol.

stock rears and the 21" dunlop fronts. (kt391). both the dunlop and ohtsu are radials too.

does anyone have any real world experience with the xrex tires? im not really sure which way to go this time around, i am running razrs now but am leaning toward going against the grain to see how some different tires are.

i like the original razr's best. right now i have kenda klaw xc 20" rears and they are by far the worst tire i ever had. they have NO side bite at all and they do NOT hook up either way for me. i hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i still vote the razrs as number 1. I have been looking at numerous styles tonight and havent really found any i even would like to look at. lol. about the only thing that would look like a decent tire is the kenda kutter xc. they look like decent tires for what i want to do with them. but they are 15 bucks more than the razrs are :( ill stick with the original race tire. steve

I heard cheng shen makes GBC and tires for Maxxis. I mean the maxxis razr II and x-rex look almost identical.

Im planning on getting the x-rex fronts, they work well in the sand and all around and thats what I need.

Razr's are good for just my basic riding, and they almost last FOREVER!!! They hook up good in the corners, and still let you slide when you want. Goldspeed and DWT make the best MX tires in my opinion.

Best tires I have ridden were razr 2's. Worst were the stock Ohtsu's. They had great forward traction but were known to slide, bite and throw you off the quad.

As for the Xrex tires, I remember someone saying that they are made in the same factory as the razrs.

the only problem with the xrex stuff is that they are almost 2x as much as a razr. at least where i looked at them they were 112 bucks for a rear. :eek2: :eek2: more money than ill be paying for any "off brand" style tire. steve

I am telling you guys that Goldspeed and DWT make good tires, they wear decently but hook up great!!! Nobody here uses them, I put them on all the 450's I build!!!

Thats odd with the x-rex. I found they were cheaper for the fronts. maxxis razr II front is like 80 bucks, x-rex are only like 60.

dirtrider77

where the heck are you finding them for $60 ?? haha

x2 i didnt even find the xrex on dennis, i found them on magic racing. That is where i checked the price. not sure if i just overlooked them or what on the dk site though. steve

turf tamers that are notched out are supposed to be pretty good.

Any others people have tried? steve

I still like the kenda klaws XCR, went riding 2x since I flipped them around for softer kinda dirt and man do they grip. I had no issues keeping up with my buddy who has paddles. Flipped the other way they really bite into the harder stuff.

I had wanted the rzr rears, but the price of them is alot and they are heavy. Plus the dual tread thing of the kendas really sold me-specially when people reported they would work as well as a paddle in loose/soft stuff.

I may have to try them. Im not really sure which one yet. I may take my razrs put them on the r and get some different ones for the ex. those are at the top of the list i guess. I may end up getting some different rims with them too. Ill have to see what happens. I want to run 10" rims all around on the r just like the ex but really wanna run .190s on it instead of my quadroks that are on the 400 since those are the only 10" rims i have all around. I will be getting my 20x11x10 and 22x7x10 razrs this week that were for the 400 but now i am debating what to do and if i want to run the full setup on the r. oh the choices one must make. lol I think the quadroks may look weird on the r...

out of the question but..
which tire would be best for a 250ex..?

any off brands?
thanks guys

pretty much any of the ones that we have been discussing. It depends on if you want a 22" rear like the stocker or not. I ran 22" razrs on my old one, my neighbor ran 18s and 20s on his. all depends on how you want it. It will affect the speed also if you run smaller ones but it will get there faster. The 20s were great for trails and made it quite quick getting to 50. steve

CJM

I prefer 20s overall due to size, weight and speed. I feel 22's are to tall and tend to be tippy, 18's are way to small for anything besides racing.

how would the 20's affect my top speed?(any that you recomend 20's or 22's/)
thanks for the input

tire size changes your top speed.

Smaller tires is easier to turn, moves more revolutions and is lighter-thus you gain some speed. Its not much, probably 2-3mph, but the fact the quad has to work much less to push those smaller tires is a plus.

your top speed will drop noticeably if you go to 20's. you will gain acceleration, but you will drop into the mid 40s for top speed. it feels a whole lot better handling wise, but remember, 250ex's can not be regeared to make up for the ratio change.

you will probably lose 5 mph or so going from a 22 to a 20" tire but you will gain the torque since your gearing will be lower.

you know my vote on the tire choices already. lol Steve

will it be faster then a stock ds250?
so i should go with twenties
are there any that make it wider?

you have to change wheel size or get a wider axle to do this.

dirtrider77
11-17-2010, 10:55 AM
speed is in the hands of the rider

going down to 20s you will not be as fast top speed wise, but you will accelerate faster

as far as making it wider, you can get different offset wheels, and if you get mx style tires (not radials), it will feel wider, as it will corner better

do not buy the wheel spacer kits that bolt onto your hubs....

honda400ex2003
11-17-2010, 02:58 PM
not sure on the ds and how fast it is.

most of the aftermarkets are at least 10" wide, the razrs are 11" wide.

your stockers are 22x10x9 on your 250 so anything wider than that in a 20 would be fine.

steve
