Not sure about what series you are running, but I asked NEATV officials about this. (more than once)

Firm...no!

You can always ask the people running the series.

Not sure if AMA has a direct rule or not about communications, if your series is part of AMA/ATVA.

When I mentioned this to my son, he told me there was no interest, because he did not want me in his ear during a race.

Idk if I would like that or not. It would be good to have someone there to tell you where people are goin and maybe where you could save time, but at the same time I think it would be distracting because i get into a zone and a rhythm and feel like someone talkin to me might mess that up.

I have voice activated helmet to helmet or helmet to radio communications in one of my helmets. I used to use it for practice and it was a great tool I have to say. However AMA/ATVA doesnt allow it, I cant speak for other series but NEATV-MX runs off ATVA ruling for the most part so it is banned their as well.

I can say from experience with using it that in a racing environment I dont think I would want it as much, I dont think you would have time to talk or listen. Plus a good system is pricy (mine ran around $300 I believe)

This is what we use during desert races:

Expensive but it works great, been using it for years and never had one problem. Saved us at one race because we had a problem with the quad and the rider was still 15 miles from the pit. The next pit was able to get parts to the quad and got us running again. We also call out mile markers while on the quad, then the pit crews know about where the quad is at all times.

That being said, they are great for emergency type stuff, but if you are racing, you will not want to be talking while you are concentrating. Worse yet, you will not want someone talking to you while you are concentrating, gets annoying real fast. I have actually reached back and unplugged my radio because it was bothering me so much when people are on your channel just yapping away about nothing. Worst was at one race we chose the same channel as the security at the nearby casino, those guys talk non stop! Ended up changing channels after the first lap.

I do use them at times while we just go out a play ride, it is pretty cool when you can comunicate with someone riding with you without having to stop. Even more fun when they do something stupid and you can mess with them without actually stopping your riding! haha
